So after many many years with coverage that specifically excluded WLS... and a couple of years with a PCP who is not a fan, my Doc has finally agreed to submit the necessary paperwork to get me on the road. I am not entirely sure what the process is and I hope that they will send me some info... but I am looking forward to the road ahead.

I got tired of not fitting in the world and knew that WLS was my best hope to change that. Turns out it took an awful lot of mental health work as well, so maybe I didn't really need WLS.... but I'd never done the mental work prior to WLS so it really doesn't matter!

The post surgery diet is basically low carb. You have to eat dense program, followed by veggies. No starches, minimal fruit. Read the daily menu threads to get an idea of what people are eating.

Before starting any diet, I would check with your insurer to see what their requirements are in regard to "medically supervised diet" .... some want you to be on one for a year before you have surgery. I was lucky in this respect....I had a PCP who had been recommending surgery for a long time. I was seeing him on a regular basis and as part of check-in I got weighed before every visit. And diet/surgery was usually discussed at my appointments. So I was able to use a letter from him stating he was seeing me for weight loss (among other things) and my weight was ## a year ago, and ## now. It got me my approval.

Good luck to you. Feel free to post on the General Discussion board....you'll probably get more feedback there.

Good luck!

Hey all, I have my orientation at the end of January so because its a new year so I am just taking a poll.

Should I start weigh****chers or Keto?, the reason I ask is because i want tp start eating properly as in 3 meals a day etc...

What do you think of this programs and what did you do before and after the surgery to show yout effort and dedication.

I hope this makes sence.

All the best

Katrina

Topic: RE: Mtg with Surgeon before any assessments

Not sure what TWH is.... but I met with the surgeon at my first appointment after seminar. In many practices that is normal. If your BMI is over 50 it is usually not necessary to have any co-morbidities. The general rule is having a co-morbidity is necessary if your BMI is under 40. My surgeon says the ones they consider are diabetes, sleep apnea and high blood pressure.

Obviously there are medical evaluations/tests and psych evaluations to follow.
