Anyone have to do a 14 Day Liquid diet just to get the next Dr's appt?

I'm on day 5 of a 14 day liquid diet. I was told by the surgeon I saw to download the info of a website and read it carefully. I was also to complete a 14 day liquid diet and then call them for the next step. Anyone had to do this well before they know that they are going to get the surgery?

Anyhow, I'm not finding it as difficult as I thought it would, but also want to make sure that I'm on the right track. I see lots of talk about Optifast. Is that better than say Premiere Protein? I want this so bad that I want to ensure I'm doing everything I need to.

Welcome to the boards!

Every clinic seems to have their own way of doing things. I didn't have to do any kind of pre diet, until I got to the point of the preop phase. In Canada, that's usually a prescription optifast diet. I don't think opti is something you can buy over the counter ( but I could be wrong) My pre-op diet was three weeks.

Thanks for replying, just nice to know that I'm not alone on this journey. I'm on day 8 of 14! I have to say it hasn't been horrible.

It's already been stated, but I do think that EVERY clinic and surgeon has their own guidelines and specifications.

I met with my surgeon AFTER completing a long checklist they gave me (two nutritionist visits, 1 psych eval, 6 months of supervised weight checks with my physician, cholesterol panel, etc.) The surgeon then consulted with me and sent in my paperwork. My insurance approved the surgery, they scheduled it for two weeks after the approval and then they put mtwo-weekwo week diet

Week One: 1 protein shake for breakfast (they recommended premier or bariatric advantage)

4 oz of lean meat and 1 cup of steamed veg for lunch and dinner

Week Two: 4 protein shakes a day (8am, 12pm, 4pm, 7pm)

Two days before surgery: ALL CLEAR LIQUIDS ONLY (broth, sugar-free jello, crystal light, etc.)

My BMI is 60.

Thanks for replying and congrats on you upcoming surgery. My BMI is 60 as well and I am hoping to get that down a bit before the next step. It all helps. I didn't end up with this body overnight and don't expect it to change overnight.

I'm now on day 8 of 14 of the liquid diet, and its not as bad as I had imagined it to be. I kinda like the simplicity of it and I am currently using Premier protein shakes. I am new on this forum but from what I've read, tastes can change.

Definitely not something I had to do, but every surgeon is different!

When it comes to protein drinks, you want something that is whey protein and not a "meal replacement" as those tend to have a lot of carbs. As to what's best, it depends on your tastes. I prefer Optimum Nutrition Double Rich Chocolate protein powder mixed with unsweetened original almond milk to any of the ready to drink shakes, for example.
