Jealousy

Everytime I read one of your post's, I think there is a girl with her head on right. Small goals are a great way to get to your ultimate goal.

I hope your goal is to be happy, healthy, and at a maintainable weight.

Took me 17 months to lose 160. The last 20 took as long as the first 80.

I agree with ALL of this. I'm not to goal at 2.5 years out. But, I'm very happy where I am. Can I lose more to get to goal? Sure!! And I'm still trying. I'm also not going to beat myself up for not being there yet. I know I could do better. But, I have a happy life now!

That's why we all keep coming back to this forum specifically. There are a ton of great people throughout OH that we can relate to, identify with and learn from but for those of us who started out SMO our experience is going to be different.

There are people posting everyday upset with themselves for getting up to their highest weight of _____ (insert number I have yet to reach). I obviously can't identify with them all that well so I do my best not to compare but as Insert Fitness said that works...most of the time.

I think it's normal to reflect back on our own progress with mixed emotions; proud of what we've accomplished and continue to accomplish while being disappointed in ourselves for letting things go as far as they did.

Gwen, you're pounds away from being half of your starting weight and that's incredible no matter how long it takes!!

I totally get it. The jealously totally got to me the first few years. I will say the further I get out, the less important that is to me. Now, at 8.5 years out, I focus on those further out than me who are still at their goal weights and hope that will be me, too. The regain stories scare me, but I learn so much from them and appreciate the honestly of people who share their regain stories with us.

I turned 50 this past August. I have so much living left to do and plan to enjoy every minute of it in good health!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one to feel like this. I've been to ashamed to post my starting weight cause I still have a long way to go, but being down 114 pounds is still an accomplishment to me. I too would feel like i was doing something wrong or losing to slow because people where reaching there goal so quickly, but I have to remind myself that i have over 250 pounds to lose. Basically the extra person i was carrying around needed surgery too. I love coming to this site daily to help me keep on focus and remind me that my day of goal will come if I stick to it. I'm almost 7 months out and still religiously track everything i eat. I don't think i've ever kept up on my food tracking that long before. I should note that that 114 pounds down is counting from my starting weight at orientation over a year ago. I lost 40 pre-op and 74 since surgery Sept 12, 2016.

I know when I read "goal reached in 10 months! or 8 months! or whatever... it is hard. I do tell WLS surgery peeps how much I've lost, but I do not tell friends, family and the general population because I don't think they could put their mind around someone losing 220lbs.... I didn't only lose a person, I lost a large person...and I feel they would judge in their own way....

I don't think the 'Honeymoon" is a total myth- but the ability to lose weight doesn't just disappear after a year. Overtime you can physically eat more...yes you still have restriction but not like in the early days, where you literally took 2 bites and couldn't eat more. That is why developing good habits early on is so important...

I feel the same way, sometimes I look at someone who started at 250 (or less) and think, if I were 250 I don't know if I would have had the surgery. But that is #1 not my business and #2 if I would have had surgery at 250 maybe I would have been better off, but you can't go backwards.

My goal weight is 170 and as with some of you it was just a random number that I came up with, I don't really know what I will do when I get there. I don't even know if I will get there. At this point if I can get under the 200 pound mark I will be ecstatic.

All of you that started at the 300+ level are such an inspiration to me and the fact that 2 or 3 years out you are still working at it and even continuing to loose is phenomenal. I really admire all of you that work at every day years after the "honeymoon" is over - it gives me so much hope!

I know this was posted a week-ish ago but I just saw it and so wanted to chime in.

Gwen, I felt and still feel the same way but mostly just ignore it all. When I first joined I felt really lost on this site because I would see mostly people around 250-ish pounds and think OMG I'm 377 pounds and will never get anywhere. I started ignoring most people's posts if they didn't have weights in the signatures, which sounds ****ty but I was feeling really crappy about my likelihood of getting anywhere.

When I found a few people with starting weights around mine I basically watched everything they posted because their posts meant a million times more to me than all of the 'lightweights' combined. Our experiences are not quite the same - but then again of course they're not.

Those of us that were SMO probably have different expectations of where we want to end up as well. And I don't think that other people can understand that if they weren't as heavy as we have been.

I do still get jealous of those that had the surgery at a lighter weight. I think of how much better my body would have looked if I made the decision sooner. But it is what it is. And we're here of course!
