Hi and welcome!
I'm 5 weeks out myself and it took me 9 days after surgery to get back down to my surgery weight. I was on the scale daily for months pre surgery and now post surgery I've had to back off a little as the slow moving numbers were challenging mentally and emotionally. Now I weigh myself a few times a week and record my weight on Mondays only. It's hard not to compare yourself to others but I know I just have to focus on myself and take it one day, one meal at a time. Patience isn't usually my strong suit but I've really pushed myself to look at things more logically than emotionally. It's been helpful to focus more on my accomplishments thus far, my next goal which is only a few pounds away and less on the bigger picture. Good luck with everything!

Hello...
How are you feeling?
What was your first week like... Did you find it hard getting the fluids in? Did they make you nauseous?
How was your pain? Did you find it manageable?
Did you find you were regular?
Any advice or suggestions?

Yikes... It is coming fast...
Thank you
Sandra

IN THE END WE ONLY REGRET CHANCES WE DIDN'T TAKE.
Here's my take:
Yes the fluids were hard...keep sipping constantly
Count protein and fluids... liquid protein counts as fluids too...
I had problems with nausea on and off for a long time, Tic tacs were my friend...carried them everywhere. One or two of the white peppermint ones melted in my mouth helped tremendously.
SF Popsicles also my friend- counted as 2oz liquid and was solid flavorful and cold when you wanted to bite something...
Stayed in hospital 2 nights and only took one pain pill the first night home. After that tylenol. Your mileage may vary. :)
Didn't have a recliner, so used an outdoor anti-gravity lounge chair with a fluffy blanket on it as a recliner the first 2 days home.
Had surgery on a Wednesday, follow up with Doc on Monday, started driving after the appt, and by the next Wednesday remember standing in my kitchen not believing I had surgery a week ago.
Biggest challenges are the mental, and figuring out the food. Things seemed easy until I got to dense protein. Keep it moist- add a little broth, gravy or sauce.... small pieces and chew well. Avoid ground meat, and stick with poached or soft boiled eggs in the beginning...
Never know what is going to agree or not agree so first time around the block with anything chew chew chew and take it slow. I couldn't do tuna for 6 months, salad for 3 month...and still don't find cold cuts agree with me that much...Beef never bothered me from the beginning, yet for others it does. It is very personal....
After one week went into a 3 1/2 week stall and thought I had made the biggest mistake- rearranged my insides and I wasn't going to lose weight anyway. I remember the Doc kept saying- I'm not worried....
This is life now it is not a diet...I made a decision from the beginning if I was going to do this crazy thing- I was going to make it my job...
Good Luck and keep coming around...

I have been a little bit of a stranger here... When I went to my son's in the beginning of December I had my metabolism tested again (and bodyfat testing) as I am at goal now.... It gave me a base line calorie intake as well as told be I burn carbs more efficiently than fats. 77% vs 23%.... Now weight loss was all about low carb and low calorie, but now trying to find my happy place with food in maintenance. So since the test I have been adding calories and having one carby item a day...usually a low carb pita or wrap. Have to say, since I started that I feel like my weight is more stable, and I am mentally more stable about my food.
I am a daily weigher, but Wednesday is my official weigh-in day
Highest ever: 420+
Surgery consult: 383
This week: 165
Maintenance range +/- 165
So happy to be staying in my range during the holidays, even with a few carb indulgences...If I can get through New Years I'll be really happy :)

This is really interesting. i don't think I ever realized you could have your metabolism tested in that way.
