I just got approved from my insurance for a wls consultation after the second time my pcp sent in my referral. First time i was 60 bmi and was denied. Two years and 4 months later i got my approval  my bmi is 67. Due to my high bmi what surgery is recommended?

People with high BMIs get both surgeries. I chose RNY because I knew I had faithfully restricted my diet at times, and still not lost any significant amount of weight. I wanted what I saw as the advantage of malabsorption to get me on my way, realizing I also needed to establish new habits.

Have you heard of the silastic ring? Id hate to be malnourished with malabsortion...with rny..but sounds like a better tool.

No haven't heard of that. The malabsorption doesn't last forever, and with either surgery it is important to keep up on your vitamins because you aren't going to get all your nutrients with the smaller quantity of food.

the silastic ringis just like lap band. They do horrible damage and have poor weight loss.

Have you looked into the DS? With a BMI of 67, I think you should look into it, if you have not already.

I had RNY 7 years ago. It was the right choice for me.

I had the vsg & am happy with my choice. Some people can't lose all they need to lose with a restriction only type of surgery & needed the boost the malabsorption procedures like the rny & ds provides.

Either surgery is good, but it'll still take hard work to get to goal & stay there.

I had RNY and am very happy with my choice so far. I had a BMI of 63.

A lot of my choice was more about the surgeons in my area and what they were most experienced in.

VSG and DS are both really great options as well.
