I was at 251 and every doctor I had told me to do it and they all signed forms for my surgeon they all said the benefits out weighed the risks.  I've lost 51 pounds very fast, YES do it...  I have no regrets, also, I never told anyone I was doing it, no one, not my parents no one, except one best friend. .....  Just Get E'r Done!!!!

I would do it in a heartbeat!!! I regret being so afraid of what others thought and being so afraid of the risks!! They are so small when you think of the long term problems that arise with being obese. I had lived over 500lbs for a long time... Lost and gained and lost and gained more over and over. At 654lbs, my life I thought I was living was beginning to drown me with the extreme weight.
Talk to yourself, your doctors, and do what you are doing right now.... Asking questions and doing your research.

I am 45 now and wish I would have realized how much life is so different with less weight!!

RNY is a great tool for me! I am nearly 5.5 years out from surgery and bounce between 230-250 and love getting out and doing life without having to plan out every detail.
Best regards in YOUR decisionð?'

Not only would I do it again ... I would do it every year for the rest of my life, if I had to.  Seriously.  It's THAT worth it.

My highest weight was over 700lbs.  I got down to around 450 with diet.  I had surgery around 400 pounds.

I don't regret it for a moment.  It was like night and day.  I still have at least 100lbs to lose, but that's like easy peasy now.  I've gained and relost so much weight that I probably have lost a ton, heh.  Surgery was amazing.  I changed all my habits, and I'm not gnawingly hungry now.  My hunger is managable and no longer urgent to satisfy.

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!

HI Sassy,

I'm not sure how to answer this.  I was 410 when I had my surgery over two years ago and I'm 371 now.  I had gastric sleeve and I still stress eat - my behaviors and patterns didn't change.  I never ate a large quantity of food all at one time, I was more of a secret binger so the sleeve didn't really work for me.

I still have to eat right and exercise like a madwoman for the scale to show any difference and now I have anemia, hypothyroid, hypertension and gastric reflux, some thanks to the surgery.

So would I do it again?  Not sure.

Don't think of it as the thing that will save your life because although it's worked like that for a lot of people, for others it hasn't.  I think the expectations are set too high.

I think committing to changing your life is more important then cutting out parts of your body to prevent you from gaining weight.  I often think to myself that wiring my jaw shut would have been better than cutting out half my stomach.

Still struggling,

Jaide

Have you talked to your doctor about binging?  I finally did, was diagnosed with binge eating disorder, and I've been on Vyvanse for about a month.  It's a game changer.

I would do it again in a heartbeat.  Why?  Because it's my body, my choice, and I'm the one who gets to make the decisions.  Your friends and family do NOT get to dictate what you do to get your health in check. And if they try, they're not actually friends.

My first year post-surgery was a breeze.  Then my undiagnosed binge eating disorder starting creeping back into my life due to my dad's cancer and subsequent death.  I hovered around 180lb for about a year and then gained 10 pounds when he died.  My binge eating disorder was diagnosed about a month ago and I've been taking medication for it.  I've already lost the 10 pounds and I'm almost back to my lowest weight ever.

I can't say that I've "regained my life" because the life I'm living now is one I never had in the first place.  I was inspired to go back to college, I exercise a lot because I enjoy it, I run and I've done a number of 5k and 10k races, life is amazing.  I have energy and enthusiasm and I love who I am.

I have lost one friend since surgery.  But I've gained many more and I've gained enough self-respect that I'm okay with having lost the one friend - screw him if he can't deal with me doing what's right for myself.
