First meeting with surgeon next week
Thank you so much for your reply! I can only imagine how disappointing it must be to have only lost 17 pounds, but it must also be satisfying knowing that those pounds are gone for good!
I must admit that I will be glad to have the decision made and the surgery on the horizon! It still seems pretty far away.
Good luck with your RNY! I'm sure you will see major changes as time goes on!!
Back when I had surgery, most insurance companies only covered lap band or RNY so my choice was a no-brainer. Even if I could go back and choose the sleeve, I would not. I am sure I needed the malabsorption to get to goal. Plus my dad died of esophageal cancer caused by years of acid reflux. I did not want to risk that with the sleeve nor did I want to have to take a PPI the rest of my life.
It's been 7.5 years since my RNY. I still work my ass off every day for my health. I plan to keep doing so for the rest of my life. To be successful, you need to have that same commitment to yourself no matter which surgery you choose. I am saddened to see all the people who had surgery the same time as me who have forgotten that promise to themselves.

I know ... the surgery is only one step closer to maintenance. The thought of once again regaining weight that I lose from surgery just makes me sick ... but I cling to the statistics that 90% of the people who have bariatric surgery keep off 70-40% of weight lost. Every other plan that I have gone on has ended up with me regaining all the weight plus more. But in truth I don't want to be one of those people *****gain a significant amount of weight back, so I am using this 6 month pre-op time to start working out regularly (at least as much as I can) and to change my diet.
Thank you for sharing your story and reminding me that the hardwork is truly in maintaining the weight lost!!
