Introducing my self

Selhard, thanks for your warm response!  You are so right, I do need to make caring for myself a priority, and ask my husband and family explicitly for the support I need.  I'm sure this will be part of my learning process, and probably not an easy part, giving myself time in our busy schedule is a big challenge.  And, I also look forward to that healthy chain reaction you mention, that would be a fantastic impact from this endeavor.

You asked about RNY instead of the sleeve.  I have considered both, and my physician recommended RNY for the reasons you mention, but also said that it is my decision and I need to live with it the rest of my life, and he sees improvement in diabetes with all of the surgeries.  I've done read several studies on the topic, and after all of that I simply feel more comfortable with the VSG.  If you have  input on the topic I'm happy to listen!

You are also right, the thought of having a strict routine is appealing to me.  I will work towards making that a reality.

VSG versus RNY/DS:  I am not a veteran WLSer nor am I a medical professional.  What I have is four years of personal experience attending a variety of in-person support group meetings listening/observing and almost daily visits to WLS-related internet sites. Your surgeon has given you his RNY recommendation; it feels like a disservice not to suggest for you to revisit that.  Why? Your odds are considered better with the RNY and it may be wise for you to ponder the idea odds trump comfort level.
