Question about the post-op diet I was given

Hello all!  I've not posted on this forum but had a question I thought you all may be able to give me some input on.

My surgery is scheduled for this week on Thursday and I'm going over the paperwork yet again.  The Post-op diet that my surgeons office gave me seems to be rushing things from what I've noticed the veterans on the RNY forum talking about.

Just wondering how safe trying to follow this plan is going to be.

Any advice would be great, I've tried contacting the dietitian with my concerns several times but haven't received any response.

Day 1-2 clear liquids

Day 3-7 full liquids

Week 2-5 Pureed or soft foods

Week 6 start transition to solid food diet

Month 4 start maintenance diet

That is MUCH faster than what I had to do with my sleeve. I did 2 weeks clear liquids, 2 weeks full liquids, and 1 week soft. I had no trouble at all by following this.

Thank you!  I think I'm going to take it slow and easy, I don't want to cause myself any pain or create problems with my pouch.

That's pretty similar to what I have.. but you shouldn't be starting maintenance until, you know, you reach goal weight.

I'm a VSGer and that sounds fast to me.  Mine was day 1 to 2 weeks liquids (water and protein shakes), week 2 to 3 months soft foods, month 3 - month 6 start transition to solid foods (SLOWLY!).

That said, everyone handles food differently, and each food is different too.  Whatever you do, go slow.  Eat slow and chew, chew, chew. :)

Sounds okay to me, except for the maintenance diet at four months.  As Gwen mentioned, you should only start on maintenance once you reach your goal.

Mine was quicker than that.
week 1: Day 1-2 clear liquid
             Day 3-7 full liquid
Week 2: soft foods
Week:3 pureed foods
week 4: all foods except salad and raw veggies

Salads after 6 weeks.

Edit: Wanted to add "all foods" is in theory. My Doc's manta is "Protein first, them veggies and then IF you have any room, fruit and then carbs" He never says no carbs, it is just at the end of the list.

My instructions were similar to this, but no raw veggies/salad until 8 wks. I'm 8 months out and still don't do salad or most raw veggies because my sleeve doesn't like 'em.

Sounds exactly like mine except at 6 months I started what they refer to as my " Lifetime Diet"
