Slow weight loss

I feel as if I may have failed myself after having surgery. I had surgery in November last year weighing in at 383 and now I'm only 5O pounds down...is this normal?

What surgery did you have? Are you measuring your food intake?  Are you avoiding liquid calories?  I had RNY in October of 2013 and had lost 100 lbs a little after the 6 month mark which is about average.  Evaluate what you're eating and talk to your dietician or nutritionist for proper guidance.  :D

I had VSG...I went through a phase for a couple of months where I drank a lot of my calories and really didn't eat well. But now I realize I made an awful mistake by doing that and I can't seem to go down on the scale any more.

Well, get back on the horse--measure your portions, eat protein forward and focus on dense, high-satiety foods.  This is your lifelong tool and you have a leg up on most other people.  They need to fill a football, you only need to fill a banana.  :D

You have to eat your protine first and stay away from any carbs and get your water in to 64 oz if you eat your protine you will be less hungry and you need water everyday cut all carbs.

I know with RNY we generally lose about 50% of our excess weight by 6 months out.

You are not a failure. It sounds like you have just gotten a little off-track. Measure your portions and track every bite. You can do this, but you have to be honest with yourself about how much you are really eating.

Some people with VSG do seem to lose slower. It doesn't mean you won't lose. You said you lost your way a little, well that is in the past. Look forward and follow the rules. Your tool is still there. Don't play the comparison game, you never win. Good Luck

What surgery did you have?  What are you eating? Any surgery is a tool you have to use it properly if you dont eat right you don't lose weight.
