Introducing myself - New Here
Hi, everyone. My name is Jamie and I'm new to the community and to the WLS journey. WLS has been recommended to me for years, but I was convinced I could "do it myself," though I never did. I'm 36, a wife, mother to a 3 yo girl, and professional. I'm ready to get healthy for myself and my family. I have no real comorbidities, but I know if I don't do something now, it won't be that way for long. My BMI is currently 53.4. I started my 3 month medically-supervised diet required by my insurance today (I'm doing a combo of Weigh****chers and the gym, because those are verifiable), and I weighed in at 341. I hope to be under 300 by surgery, which I'm hoping to schedule for November. First consult with my surgeon is next Tuesday! Looking forward to getting to "know" y'all and keeping up with everyone's story.
Welcome :)

Hi Jamie,
Welcome! We're at similar weights, ages, and both pre-op! What surgery are you considering? I myself had a Lap-Band in 2011 and lost almost no weight from it. I'm in the approval process for a revision to a Gastric Bypass (RNY) which I am hoping I will have in early September!
I likely will not need a 3 or 6-month medically supervised diet for my approval (I will know soon - they're going to submit the claim without it first). Either way though, I have started my food journal, tons of research, getting rid of all bad food from my house, getting used to protein shakes. It's starting to feel really good. I'm sure with WW and going to the gym you will be happy with your results! Something else that helped something click for me mentally was a weekday post in the RNY forum where you post what your are going to eat today. It really made me think "Oh, hey... I can plan this out and know in advance how much I am going to eat".
I'm sure this site will be a good tool for you as well! Welcome again, glad to cheer you on through your journey!

I'm considering mostly the sleeve, but would also consider the RNY if my surgeon suggests it. My twin sister had an open RNY in 1998 when we were 19 (14" incision!), but I'd really love not to have to deal with some of the absorbtion issues and the whole rerouting my intestines if possible (no real reason -- it just seems ickier than taking out part of my stomach. Don't know why though). Thanks for the encouragement! I've done WW & gym before (probably not a surprise to anyone) and it defniitely worked short-term, so I'm hoping for some momentum going into the surgery. I'm definitely a planner -- weight loss has been easiest for me when I treat it as a hobby and really get into it (or when I was pregnant - i lost 65 pounds when i was pregnant with my daughter -- obviously not even trying -- only time I've been under 300 in 10 years). Here's hoping for good news from your insurance company!
Welcome!! My starting BMI was also 53 and 7 years later I maintain at a BMI of 22. My kids were 3 and 5 when I had my RNY. They barely remember the old me. I am so thankful I did what I had to do to get healthy and stay healthy.
Good luck!!

Welcome! I'm in the middle of my journey :) My BMI was 63 when I started and it's down to 51 right now, I'm 4 months out from my RNY. This is a great place for support. I came here and read a ton when I was thinking about surgery, before surgery and after! Now I post whenever I need to vent or have a question and almost always get what I need.
