The first time I had weight loss surgery I was over 460.  I had the lapband done and followed a diet of high protein very low carb before surgery and after.  Diet is 90% of the weight loss when you are that size, and you want to just focus on your eating habits.  The moving will come as it comes, and just moving a little is good to make sure your circulatory system is healthy for surgery, but don't feel the need to go hardcore on exercise just yet.  The eating is the hardest part to get down so focus on that and remaining positive.  I lost a lot, very fast, with the lapband and the very high protein low carb diet.  The band failed (slipped) when I became pregnant and caused me to eat mushy foods like carb heavy starches which caused my weight to go all the way up again to 355.  I finally got the band unfilled and was able to do high protein ultra low carb again and dropped weight very quickly.  I just had surgery and am in my 3 week stall but i know without this tool I would be dead.  With the tool I have all the positive strength in the world!  I can do anything, and you can, too.

Just to add another voice of support -- I'm just a few weeks out from surgery, but I started out at a BMI of about 74, and managed to get down to 63 in the nine months before surgery. About a month into my pre-surgery weight loss, I fell and severely injured my knee -- so my ability to exercise was extremely limited for months, and mostly consisted of my two physical therapy sessions each week.

Don't be afraid to ask for help with exercise! I started working with a personal trainer in my home a few years ago, and she has really helped me to understand ways to work around my size. Even if working with a trainer regularly isn't financially possible for you, it may help to even do one or two sessions so you can learn (and write down) some things you can do on your own. There are exercises you can do in bed or in a chair that are helpful, you just need someone to show you.

You can do this -- just work on finding the people who will be your support network throughout the process.

HI!!  Welcome!! :) My BMI is over like 84.  My highest weight was 528 that I know of anyway.  I am primarily immobile.  I can get up the stairs to the bedroom/bathroom.  I can get to my car, and I can get in my wheelchair to go places but I have to rely on others which totally stinks.

BUT... I am learning to move a little and a little more each day it really helps.  I lie on my bed with my feet (from the knees down) over the edge and do modified sit-ups.  The first time I think I did 10 and I worked my way up to 100, I will be starting over tomorrow with those.  I also got one of those workout bands from the exercise coach in my program and you can find exercises for the immobile or  handicapped on YOUTUBE.  DONT overdo it!! Start small and work up because if you go gung ho like I did the first time, doing a 20 minute workout from the chair you will be so sore that you wont want to work out again for a long time.  So do five to 10 minutes and if you need to skip a day and do it the following, and work out until you can do that amount every single day, and then up the time to 15 minutes.

If you can get to a pool, and you have support to get in and out that would be amazing because it is less stressful on your joints. :)

We are all here for you, any questions just ask.  Its a journey.  It didn't take you a month to put all the weight on, it will take time to take it off.  You are worth it!! God has you here for a reason...fight for your future!!! :)
