Having to force myself to eat.

I am almost a month out from gastric bypass. (4/3/2015).  I was so excited when I knew that I would be able to go to the soft food stage, I marveled at all the possibilities.  Unfortunately, it has not been as good as I thought it would be.  I am finding that I am having to force myself to eat anything.  I have luckily gotten the whole drinking thing down.  I am getting my 64 ounces (plus) a day.  I am not doing so well on the protein.  I only get 40-50 of that a day.  I still am having problems with the shakes, I have now tried about five of them.  EAS, muscle milk light, premium protein, body fortress, and one other that I cannot think of right now.  I am just making sure that every bit of food that I do eat has some sort of protein.  My nutritionist said she thought it might be a good idea if I try to take in some of the Optifast that I had left over.  That stuff is not tasting good to me, either.

If there is any suggestions, I would sure appreciate it, especially if anyone knows of any other protein shakes that might taste better.  Since I have been home from the hospital, I have lost 32 pounds.  Thanks in advance!

That was a mistake! I meant to put 3/3/2015.

My favorite shakes are both by Syntrax: Nectar and Matrix. I think the nutrition is better in the Nectar line but I prefer the flavor in the Matrix line. You can get samplers of both at mybariatricpantry.com along with other brands. I just ordered some of another brand to try. :)

R U allowed coffee? I still drink Chike which is protein coffee that I make with soy milk. I also like Quest vanilla flavor & am patiently waiting for the strawberry flavor to come in the mail, unfortunately neither one has anything smaller than a tub to sell, but they might be able to send you a sample. When I ordered the bars, that's when I got the sample from Quest.

I was sleeved just a few days after your RNY.

Sometimes I have a really hard time wanting to eat much of anything. I can, thankfully, tolerate most meat and cheese, plus Greek yogurt. This week I'm trying Isopure Zero Carb drinks. They're far less nasty than most protein shakes (though not good, IMO). Ive tried six different protein powders, I have several more brands to try, as well.

Oddly I have no trouble with water either - I crave it!

Sounds to me like you are doing well with the water, protein amounts, and weight loss.  Maybe you could try mixing your own protein shakes; many recipes can be found at www.theworldaccordingtoeggface.com.  (my post-op instructions said to avoid coffee products especially the first six months).

As another poster stated, Syntrax Nectar are my favorites.  I used the Chocolate Truffle, Vanilla Bean Torte and Double Stuffed Cookie mixed with unsweetened almond milk.  I like the taste so much, that I actually consider them a "treat" -- trick is not to use a blender.  shake or stir -- then they aren't so frothy.  I also drink them from a cup with a lid.

I also like their fruity flavors -- I use Fuzzy Navel and Strawberry Kiwi -- but I like to mix them with a similar crystal ligh****er.  My husband likes them so much, that I have often found mine gone because his skinny ass has used mine up.

I also like the Matrix line -- especially the mint cookie -- but there are considerably more calories in it -- so I don't use them very often.

If you have a vitamin shop near you, you can usually buy individual packs for 1.99.  Also, if you buy a full sized one there and find you don't like it, you can return it with the receipt within 10 days.  This is awesome -- I have done that several times.

About 5 weeks out I couldn't tolerate the shakes, then I tried the coffee flavored ones and they saved me. Chike and Fit Frappe are my favorites....

I love the Inspire protein powders from bariatriceating.com. Mixed with unsweet almond milk, they are not overly sweet and have good flavor. I think it might be a new site cause I only recently heard of them.
