I am 5 weeks post op and I feel like I should be losing more weight.  I am eating solid foods - very small amounts and not always hungry.  I'm averaging 5 pounds a week and I thought I would lose more.  I am getting at least 35-40grams protein and 50oz. water.  Any suggestions?  I don't have tons of energy but I have more than before.  I do fine for a couple of days and then I'm pretty tired for a day.  Thanks for any help.

You definitely need to be getting more protein and liquid - 64 ounces of liquids and at least 60 grams of protein.

Otherwise, 5 pounds a week is amazing!  Way to go!!  I'm averaging 5 pounds a month now if I'm lucky!!

5lbs a week is awesome, I know it is hard not to compare. Yes up your protein and water, you should be hitting your goals by now. You are probably tired because you are not drinking enough.

I posted a similar thread when I was 5 weeks out. I felt like I should be losing more. Plus I had gained 14 pounds of water during the surgery. I was frustrated, but I kept at it and the weight started falling off. Sometimes I'd wake up and 10 pounds had just disappeared. It's a great feeling. I had trouble getting the required protein/ water in at first, but I did the best that I could. I'm nearly 6 months out from my gastric bypass and have lost 85 pounds so far. I still have very far to go, but I'm over-joyed. Yes, I could have lost more, eaten better, exercised more, but overall, I'm happy with the progress. Sometimes I stall at a weight for a few weeks, but then I lose it.  Someone on this forum told me you can't always go by the scale because sometimes you've lost inches, so if you feel like you need more encouragement, try keeping track of your body measurements and don't concentrate on your weight changes. Remember, this is a marathon, not a sprint, and if you keep at it, the weight will fall away. Good luck to you!
