I am 5'0" and currently 302 pounds. I want lose at least 170 pounds. I seem to have a slow metabolism. I can't seem to lose any weight regardless what I do.
It seems like short people who morbidly obese have a harder time. Is there anyone else around my height who also wants to lose over 150 pounds?
I am 5'2 . I weighed 395 pounds. I has gastric by pass. I now weigh 216 pounds.. It been about 3 years since surgery. I tried really hard to get under 200 pounds. the closest I got was 210 pounds. I lost 190 pounds. I am Lucky so far have had any bad side effect. For a about three month my hurt and was sore. but, It was my body rebalancing it self.

I was a few inches taller than you, but wanted to lose at least 170. I did. Maintianing a normal BMI for 6+years now.
Make sure you research all the surgeries. I learned that one surgery in particular is the best at addressing metabolic issues, which I had. I also had pcos and all the metabolic stuff that brings. The surgery that is best for stubborn metabolisms also happens to be the most successful at getting the weight off, keeping it off, and curing co-morbs, like type 2 diabetes. Studies show the DS is the the most successful of all the weight loss surgeries, but it comes with considerations.
Like gastric bypass, with the DS you MUST get regular bloodwork, and take supplements to keep them in line. It can be handfuls a day. The DS has the closest to normal post-op eating style, and unlike RNY, you can take NSAIDs for pain.
I can't recommend enough that you learn the differences in the surgeries before you select a surgeon. They don't all do all surgeries, and they only recommend the ones they do. A good place to access studies about the different WLSs is DSfacts.com. It's free.
I'm close... I'm 5'4" and need to lose 200. So far I've lost 60 this year thanks to significant lifestyle changes and the VSG.

I am 5'2" with a starting weight of 332 in December 2013, I had rny on 2/24/14. I have lost 104 pounds including preop loss. My goal is to get to 132 which would put me at a normal bmi. So far this has been a journey of learning how to eat healthy and how to mannage my emotions around food. I have cut out sugar and simple carbs from my life, they are just something I don't think I can eat in moderation especially in this phase of my journey. Since doing that I don't crave sweets. It has been wonderful, I physically feel like a totally new person. My brain however has a bit of catching up to do.
I wish you the best in your journey! BTW... I would do this again over and over in a heart beat.

I'm 5 1/2, have to add the 1/2 lol and I'm at 307 as of today. I am having the VSG in 10 days. I havent seen many people around here with high bmi with my short stature so its nice to see how others are doing like me.
I am 5'1. I have lost 279 pounds. I had VSG. What has made me the most successful is I am 100% on plan - 100% of the time. There is no wiggle waggle in my approach. I look at every day, post surgery, as saving my life and will do whatever it requires to continue on that path.
