Just curious---about the DS

So you're saying the DS is not successful because you don't think you see as many DSers post pics as the other surgeries do? That makes as much since as the dumping thing.
No, I think it's more successful because actual studies say so.
There are too many unbalanced people in the world to put much info like lots of pictures of yourself out there. I personally feel it isnt smart to plaster the internet with your selfies.
Do you have a link to those studies? As a professor, I prefer to see statements backed up by solid research. BTW, I did not state that the DS is any less successful than RNY, I am questioning why the hardcore DS vets that frequently tout the surgery don't post pics and refuse to discuss their actual weight loss or BMI.

Where are these people that refuse to state their stats and BMIs? I see them all the time.
If you are familiar with my posts, I give the link frequently to the DSfacts.com site, which is a free place that you can access the articles to many studies pertaining to all types of WLS and related issues. If you can access Pubmed through your own subscription, or possibly through a college library, you can find them there as well. DSfacts is the best place I know of because 1-it's free, and 2-someone else has already gone to the trouble to find the latest studies regarding WLSs.
Hi
I had the sleeve done as a first part surgery to DS if I choose. My BMI was too high to do it as a First surgery(74). My surgeon didn't think I could get under 250 with just the sleeve? I am already seeing a slow down in weight loss that scares me. I only wanted to do the first part, as the DS is a little scary for me with the malabsorption, but I know the vitamin regiment would be okay for me to do.
I've heard of the ds but it wasn't the choice for me, had the vsg instead and am doing well on that alone.

I've had the DS. I was also worried about my metabolism. I'm only 5 months out, but I think it was the right choice for me, if I was having surgery 10 years ago I likely would have gone for the vsg (had I known about it) since it's nice to have the option to go for DS if the malabsorption is needed.
I had tried long term diets ranging for 500-3000 calories (nut guided me) and I was always gaining, at varying rates. I had almost given up, but for now am happy I didn't, shall see how it ends up in 5-10 years.
I heard of it, and I know it is possible to do the intestinal part after the sleeve. But the sleeve has done the job for me. I lost 205 pounds, and I'm near goal. Hopefully, I won't need more surgery.

Hi Rosy,
I am a VSG to DS revision. When I was in the revision research phase I read a lot here and on other forums. One of the common themes from "why I chose my surgery from the RNYers" was they felt that dumping would deter from eating sweets. While dumping does not sound like a pleasant experience to me I did not think them dumb or in anyway lacking in intelligence. Like most of us...many grasp at whatever tool we think will help to win the battle of obesity. It is so hard to get emotions from written words sometimes. I think the intent was to repeat what some has given as "a benefit to RNY". I hope she will respond to clarify. No matter which surgery we choose we all want the same outcome!
