Just curious---about the DS

How many people here have had the DS? Are planning to have the DS? Have researched the DS?

And how many have never even HEARD of the DS?

I had the VSG.

I did research the DS and even if my insurance had covered it, I wouldn't have considered it for myself.  Although I'm sure it's a great surgery for the people who choose it!

I heard of it and researched it fully. It was not the right choice for me.

I was aware of it and researched it, but it was not the right choice for me.

I researched it, and now have it.

I needed the malabsorbtion to be successful. I like the sleeve, but knew I had metabolic issues, and could eat under 1000 calories a day and not lose.

And comparing DS to the other malabsorptive procedure (RNY-gastric bypass) I could find many reasons I wanted the DS over RNY, but not even one reason I'd want RNY over DS. Not one. I'm guessing the folks that opted for RNY think dumping is plus, but to me just sounded miserable and dangerous.

Once I knew I could be OK with taking supplements for life after picking a WLS, the DS was a no-brainer.

'I'm guessing the folks that opted for RNY think dumping is plus'  This is a pretty *****y statement. I didn't think it was a plus, nor did I count on dumping, since only around 30% of RnYers dump. You manage to make those of us who chose RnY sound like a bunch of morons who cannot think for ourselves. And just to clarify, we RnYers take supplements for life, too.

I thought the days of snotty surgery ******g contests were over. Ms. Batt performs a valuable public service by making people aware of the DS, but it doesn't mean that those of us who chose RnY are ******g dumbasses.

I totally agree!! My IQ puts me in the top 1% of the population so I am definitely not a moron. I'm not sure why Amy repeatedly posts things like that here and the main forum. It seems to be her mantra. We all get to make our own choices. I always tell people to research the sleeve, RNY, and DS and make the best choice for themselves.

Yes, we all do make our own choices, and what I advocate constantly on the main board is to research and not go into any surgery until you understand them.

If I'm so offensive to you, by all means block me.

*****y?? I could not count how many times I have read that someone is hoping to dump to deter them from sweets.

If that is what determines a "dumbass" to you, so be it.

If the DS is such a successful surgery how come the more avid DS vets don't post before and after pics and their weight loss tracker?  I think that would be more of a motivator.

Laura is correct, only 30% of us dump.  I dump and I love it.  It keeps me in check.
