Horse Pucky!!!!  I had VSG surgery.  At my highest weight, I weighed 447 (BMI 84.5). When I last weighed (I weigh every couple weeks) I weighed 190. I refuse to settle for anything less than a normal, healthy weight.

I still consistently lose about 10 pounds a month.  I am about 50 pounds from my initial goal.  LOVE my sleeve!!!  It was the best thing I've done for myself.  :)

It makes me feel a lot better knowing there have been people with better results than what my nut told me was possible! I see the surgeon on Monday to discuss a date. I plan on talking to her about DS. I know she is supportive of RNY and DS. She is not supportive of one getting the band due to the high failure rate for most patients (I'm not saying it's bad. I see where she is coming from, but I don't want anyone to feel judged. You would have had to hear her explain it to me.)

Today I see my nut again for a weigh in before Monday. *nervous*

Don't be nervous.  I would just go in, have the apt and try to avoid talking about your "set point" if you can.  I agree with the others here, she should not have said that to you or anyone else.  Your set point is bound to be closed to a real goal than 250lbs.  I would not consider that a healthy weight for anyone unless they are 6'6"or more.

However, I AM a lap bandster and am getting it out soon.  My revision is either going to be RNY or the Sleeve.  The band has only been good for a small percentage (compared to being bad) and I would never recommend it to anyone, altho I did to many in the beginning.

Thank you!!

My Aunt is also having her lap band taken out and is doing a revision to RNY, but on the same day. I was worried about that but people here have told me it is common. :)

I really don't believe this either.  My highest weight was 392 and day of surgery I was 370. I am now 245 and still losing about 3lbs a week.

I've found they give expectations based on the averages they see in people. If I didn't read his forum and really learn what it takes to be successful, I think the idea that the nutritionist gave me would be accurate. They don't want you to be disappointed. They said I could get around 200 pounds. My goal is 170 because I got close to that 5 years ago. I know my body can do it. I also know it will take a lot of consistency in diet and exercise to stay at that weight. I would say not to worry about goal weights now. They can always change as you go through the process. The nice thing is that with each pound lost, you will feel better and better and be able to do more. I'm at 254 at 10 weeks and I feel amazing. I'm not skinny, but clothes look great and I can do any activities. Even if I had to stay this weight forever, I am so happy-compared to my high of 355!  But I won't stay here-lol

I'm 21 months out from RNY. Had a starting weight of 416lbs (bmi of 59.6). I have reached the 172 to 178 lb range, and have been here for the last 5 or 6 months. I've also really committed to the change in eating and exercise. But yes, it can be done!

Good luck!

I truly believe that most people can lose a lot of weight with any form of WLS. However, the real trick is keeping it off long-term, and that's where the DS seems to really shine, especially for those of us with a BMI greater than 50.

See, the higher your BMI gets, the more likely it is that your metabolism is super-efficient. (By that, I mean it can run your body on fewer burned calories, and can store most of what you eat.) The DS is the ONLY form of WLS that causes permanent malabsorption of a significant per centage of the calories you eat, and it makes a dramatic, permanent change in how your body metabolizes the calories you DO absorb.

It comes with a price---while you'll need to take vitamins and supplements with any form of WLS, and get regular blood work to check your vitamin and mineral levels, it's more important with the DS because of the degree of malabsorption. If you DON'T take your vitamins and gt your blood work, you can get in serious trouble with any form of WLS, but it will happen quicker with the DS.

Personally, it's far easier for ME to 'do something', like toss back some pills 4 times a day, than it is to 'not do something', like resist temptation, all day, every day.

Research 'em all, and choose the one that YOU can happily follow the rules with forever.
