Introduction
Hey everyone! I have been reading the boards in here and the RNY page for quite some time now and decided it was time to introduce myself. I started my weight loss journey at a seminar on September 16th of 2012 and FINALLY had my surgery November 20th of 2013. I only have one regret was not looking into DS. My surgeon discussed it with me and said he highly recommended it for me and since I had not heard of it I kind of just brushed it off. Now that I know a lot more I wish that I had considered it as an option. BUT I am insanely thrilled that I had RNY done and would do it again in a heart beat. My main issue right now is getting my exercises in. I am currently at 331 lbs and feel I am still fairly restricted on the things I can do but I have been walking. I have been looking into doing water aerobics but can't for the life of me find a bathing suit in my size this time of year. Does anyone have any recomendations on some lower intensity things that worked well for them that I can try? TIA!
Welcome! I had surgery at 350 lbs on Dec 16th and now I'm at 328. I would recommend perhaps the reclining bike at a gym (the one with a back) and also weight lifting since muscle burns more calories than fat. Have you looked online at target.com for bathing suits? I have bought them there before as well as at Lane Bryant online :)
My doctor didn't even offer the DS but I'm with you, the more I learn about it the more I wish I had it :) But my RNY is helping so far and I'm mentally in the game so I have nowhere to go but DOWN (in weight lol).
This forum doesn't seem very active so I mostly stick to the RNY forum although it seems like there are a lot of spats and misunderstandings going on over there lol!
Congratulations -- you're doing well!
I swear by my recumbent bike. I can raise or lower the intensity of the workout by increasing speed and/or resistance, and I can watch videos on my computer while on the bike (it's in my home office -- no excuses! lol).
The downside is that I have to sit on a pillow now when I use the bike due to the lack of posterior padding. It's all good, however. :)
Welcome! If you're willing to pay full price, Lands End's new suits are starting to come out, so you may be able to find a water aerobics suit from them :) When I was your current weight, I did a fair amount of Zumba, I just stood in the back of the class and modified as I needed to--when they jumped, I just did the default cha-cha. When I got out of breath, back to the cha-cha and so on. So much fun!
Im kind of excited to see what equipment they have at the gym on Post. I love getting to work out for free instead of having to pay an arm and a leg for a membership. I just ordered a suit online so as soon as I get it I am going to do water aerobics Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. THEN I plan on going to the gym with my husband a couple times a week. I know I have lost a decent amount of weight but I know when I start working out things will be even better especially as far as inches goes.
I also noticed all the spats and misunderstandings in the RNY forum. Im almost a little worried to post there.
I am so attracted to Zumba! I did aerobics back in the late '80s/early '90s, and Zumba really resembles that to me, but now it's more fun and lively. Very difficult to find classes here, and very difficult to GET to a class when I found one due to driving distance, other family commitments, just bad timing. I finally invested in the Wii game Zumba 2 and have been enjoying it, but I think it would be way more fun if I was in a room with people and not just my couch. :-/
I fight badgers with spoons.
