Switching from Diet Soda to Water?
I've used diet soda as a way to not feel deprived (use to drink reg soda all the time). But I've read that it can slow your weight loss cause it can screw up your metabolism/sugars, etc. So I want to switch to jus****er and wanted to get some feedback on other's experiences and how switching the water affected you, both physically and mentally.
Thanks :)
I wasn't a big soda drinker to start with and I quit drinking soda way before my procedure. I am not a big fan of plain water, so I use the liquid favors that have come out by Dasani, Crystal Light, Mio and even Kool-Ade. I stay away from the caffeinated flavors (energy, usually) and it's been pretty okay. Give some of them a try!
Good luck!

I had caffeine headaches afterwards but once I got on water I was good and felt so much better! As far as regular or diet you ant have either after surgery, my doctor said nothing carbonated, with alcohol for at least a year. I lost 10 pounds after I got off regular soda! Once you do it it's not that hard!
I'm not too worried about any withdrawl, I never drink caffeine on my days off from work and it doesn't give me a headache or anything. I just keep reading how good people feel after switching to water and how their complexion is better and a lot of them start dropping more weight (possible due to an increase in metabolism from the water consumption); so I'm kind of excited, because I've lost a good amount of weight but I still have a ways to go and if it can make me feel and look better I'm all for it :)
I stopped because I wouldn't be able to have caffeine or carbonation after surgery, so I tapered off.
I don't miss it, really, in spite of having had at least one diet coke per day on average (I don't drink coffee and I was a tea purist, so if I wanted a quick drink with caffeine, it was diet coke).
I do usually add Mio or something similar to my water, but at nowhere near recommended strength.
I had to slowly wean myself off of regular Diet Pepsi to caffeine free over time. The caffeine was really screwing with me and my surgeon's office tells people not have it after surgery (although of course this varies by surgeon). Then, over some more time... I switched from CF Diet Pepsi to water.
Drinking a large amount of straigh****er is difficult for me. I drink Propel Zero and find myself EASILY taking in 100 oz per day. I don't even miss soda at this point, but it took awhile. I haven't had it in about 7 or 8 months and I'm not looking to go back!

Studies have shown that drinking diet soda can lead to weight gain. The sweetness can cause you to crave more sweets, I think is the reasoning. Personally I have been around a lot of post-ops during the last 6 years and have attended many bariatric gatherings and get-togethers. The people who have never gotten to goal or who have had serious regain all seem to drink diet soda. Coincidence? Maybe, but I choose not to risk it.
