Should I Continue to Answer People when They Ask How much I've lost......They just don't...

Yesterday I was 2 months post-op and my husband asked me how much I had lost and I said 63lbs. since surgery.  He's like "I can tell you've lost weight but I didn't think it was that much, how much are you wanting to lose" so I tell him about what he weighs (he's 6'4 and weighs 190). He gives me this shocked look and says "Now you know I don't like skinny *****es" he was joking and I laughed with him but couldn't seem to tell him that losing 190 from my starting weight would leave me FAR from skinny.  What could I say to people who ask without offending them?

If you don't want to tell them, just say you're going to continue losing until you feel you're at a comfortable weight/a healthy BMI/your doctor says to stop or some similar thing.

I don't have an actual 'goal' weight. I figure I'll know when I get there. I know what the range is for a "healthy" weight is for me - I'd like to get there, but if I don't make it, but am comfortable with my weight & body, then I'll be happy.

Telling people your goal weight and/or how much you want to lose can lead to the mathematics if them figuring out your starting weight, something many people would like to avoid.

Now DH is the one person who wouldn't ask -cuz I keep telling him! *lol*

When asked "how much have you lost", my response is simple.  "Enough for you to notice."   Works every single time.

I havent gotten to this blessed stage yet. LOL.

But I work in an office of 190 women, so they will be all over me about asking about weight lost.  Its the office fav topic.

I will tell them how much I lose. But I wont tell them my goal . I'm just gonna say, " I dont know, I will stop when I feel like Im good"

Gonna somewhat bru**** off.  I know when I first come back from the surgery. Hopefully they back off and just talk about me behind my skinner back. hahahahaha

Well, I was always open with my ex-hus so he knew how much I weighed. (but ironically I will never tell my mom lol)

If you dont want to answer "how much have you lost" - just tell them you havent weighed in a while, and who knows...that's what I did for a while.

If you dont want to talk about how much you want to lose or your goal, I 2nd the opinions above and just tell people you want to get healthy and whereever that lands is what you'll take.

Thanks for all the advice.  My weight is a very touchy subject with me.  The only person I allow to know it is   One of my sisters. She had the DS 10 years ago so yeh, she had a weight problem at one time too and understands how it is.  I'll definitely use some of these responses...Thanks.

The only time I don't like it when people ask me this question is when it's in front of a group of people. I can handle the attention/conversation 1:1 with someone... but I don't like an entire group of people staring at me considering the fact of "Woah, she's really lost 170 lbs and is that overweight??" lol

When someone does ask me in a group, I say "Ohhh, it's a lot... like a whole person worth" and then change the subject. For the most part that works!

The day of my first consult, I told my husband how much I weighed. He just didn't understand why a weight management doctor would suggest surgery to me. I looked him in the eye and said "I weigh 444 lbs.... do you see this BMI chart?? I'm not even on it... I'm in bad shape."

Telling him how much I weighed was like a huge weight off my shoulders (no pun intended). I felt like it helped me take control and take responsibility. It's not for everyone though!

Don't spend so much time worrying about offending people.  Don't assume the worse.  Don't over think it.

My answer is usually, "a lot".  That clearly indicates that I'm not giving you a number.  How much more? "a lot more" or "a little more" or "until I decide to stop" or "I'll know when I get there".
