Hello all,

I have been lurking for a while now, and I decided it was time to post.  These boards have been very helpful for me in making decisions about WLS. You all seem like such a wonderful community!

I am 32 years old, and am over 500 lbs.  After a lot of research, I have decided to get the DS procedure.  I am waiting for my first appointment at Cleveland Clinic.  I am hoping to get my surgery in the next few months.  I have been overweight pretty much my entire life, and my mobility is awful now.  I finally feel like there is some hope that I can be healthy and active again, and that is a wonderful feeling.

I have lymphedema in my legs and feet, and I was wondering if others have found relief from this after losing weight.

p.s. That's my kitty Moses in my avatar.  Isn't he the cutest?

Hi there,

Glad you are posting.  Love this place especially when I felt lost and needed a pair of eyes to read me...lol...great support system this place!

But I have to disagree with you sorry...but MY cat is the cutest....lmao

I can't wait to follow your journey :)

I guess I can accept that a cat might be out there would could be EQUALLY as cute as Moses. :)  Yes, this place seems like a wonderful support system.  None of my friends have been through this, and I live alone, so I need all the help I can get.

Welcome! The more involved you can get, the better.  It's made all of the difference for me.

And you're both wrong, MY cat is the cutest!

What would we ladies do without our feline companions?  Let's not fight here.  :) ALL kitties are beautiful.   haha

Welcome! I had my surgery at 34 and I feel more healthy and active than I did for most of my 20s! Good luck!

I'm so glad to hear that!  Miraculously my insurance just changed in June and the new program covered WLS, and I'm so thankful that I can get it done at my age.  I don't  want to be 40 and this heavy.  I'd be in a wheelchair by then. :(

I also had a lot of swelling in my legs and feet, but when I went on the pre op diet which was very low carb, all of the swelling went away! I think that maybe wheat is not my friend.  I will test this theory once I can eat real food again. Best of luck on your journey.

Thanks for writing! :)  I hadn't thought about a reaction to wheat.  Here's to hoping that could help.  I can't wear any of my shoes anymore except these awful velcro house shoes.  It's embarrassing!

Just wanted to say Hi and send good wishes your way for a successful DS surgery.  My sister had it done 10 years ago and she hasn't regretted it for a second.  Welcome to the boards and best of luck to you.
