Excess skin?
You may have extra. You may not. It is what it is.
I had the VSG to save my life. I knew based on my body type and genetics that my arms were disproportionately large and would require cosmetic surgery. It really isn't about lifting weights, speed of weight loss, or some creme that you use. I had extra skin when I lost 100 pounds before the surgery and was doing crossfit type workouts. If you have a very small amount of sagging, then adding muscle to fill in some space will help. If you have major sagging, you will need to live with it or cut it off.
The skin is not a reflection of the weight loss surgery. It is the result of the fat stretching it out. The fat is the culprit.
The surgery is not a one shot deal to a better life. You will do a lot of things to better yourself on this journey- like, diet, exercise, therapy or some type of mental growth, and maybe (just maybe) skin removal surgery.
The benefits of the weight loss are so numerous. It is overwhelming how much better off I am. Walking 4-8 hours per day on my 3-week European vacation with no feet or back pain was made possible by this surgery. My clothes are a lot less expensive because I have the option to shop around. I'm not the biggest person in the room.
Bottom line, my quality of life is far better. I can't regret it. I won't regret it. And I am so glad that I had my arms done- absolutely worth it.
Oh... and I am self-pay all the way. Savings, credit cards- not buying a car, no ipad or iphone, no flat tv, etc. Sacrifice, sacrifice, sacrifice. And my life is still much better.
Thanks for sharing. I will be saving for plastics, and I will be passing up on a lot to do it.
i am blessed that my government covers the surgrey, as long as I meet the requirements , which basically just being a certain BMI and higher.
This WLS is gonna be a saving grace to me.. Looking forward to all the Nsv and having my mobility back. I'm mainly asking all these questions about plastics right now cause I am gonna have to save for it. Like having an idea what the future holds. Now that I'm invested in my health and self care I wanna make sure I research and do what best for me in all areas
Lmao!! So funny you said that.. I told my best friend I'm gonna be a wrinkle dog last night. She sent pop flying from out her nose when I said it.
Girl hear ya..
Don't be so sure OHIP won't cover it - BC MSP covers breast reduction & panniculectomy if you meet certain criteria - rashes & risk of infection (not life-threatening) and a certain amount of overhang, etc. But yeah - at our program's orientation we're told "you will have excess skin, you will want it removed, it won't all be covered, start saving now".
We've got a great plastic surgeon who works with our program - he specializes in post weight-loss body contouring. 85 lbs down pre-surgery and I've already got some serious thigh droopage - I hate to think what I'm gonna look like naked when this is all done, but who cares...my husband doesn't care how saggy I am :)
