How long do you wait to change clothes

So probably like most of us bigger gals when I buy my clothes, they need to be loose on me to feel comfortable, I usually go with a 4x, which had started to feel much more form fitting, so I'm glad I'm changing that lol, but I guess my question is how long can i stay in the current size im wearing, like what's appropriate.  I think that if my clothes are falling off of me, it would make me happier then going out and getting smaller sizes because yes those will fit, but like I said I always buy clothes so they are a little baggy on me. And also for a girl who does realize how big she is, whenever I go into a store I'll pick out say a shirt and it'll look huge and long, just how I like my shirts and then I get them home and they are much tighter and shorter, so I seem to have a problem with guestimating my size and I'd rather wait until I was down to where I could really tell a big difference then to go and get stuff, think it should fit now, only to be let down.

Sorry for the rambling and I hope this post makes sense

Always try on clothes. And always try them on in your "worst pair of pants" - you know, that one pair that your tummy just doesn't look good in unless it's a longer shirt. Yeah. That one.

My one rule, throughout my weight loss is that I will NOT wear a bad fitting pair of undies or bra. I let my clothes get pretty loose, although I tend to like things that are more fitted now... not TOO fitted because of the stomach issues and skin, but def more fitted than I did before!

I am a poor single mom and very frugal. I shop at thrift shops. It's amazing what you can find there. I always had 3 pair of pants that fit during the losing phase. I would wear them until they were falling off me. I would drill extra holes in my belts and wear them forever, too. I'd shop about once a month and always get a pair one size smaller so I would know when to go shopping again. I still shop at thrift shops. It's like a treasure hunt!!

I agree with Laura about thrift stores. When I first started losing, I had to lose about 30 pounds before my clothes got loose( I never wore them baggy). Now it still takes me about 15-18 pounds to drop a size.
My support group also has a clothing exchange so I got things there too.

In the beginning I did wear my clothes till they hung on me.  Or someone made a comment that my clothes were too big.  I had saved all my clothes that I grew out of.  Hoping someday to fit back into them.  Not really believing I ever would.  I had sizes from 22 all the way up to 34,   So I would go bin shopping every so often to see what fit.  I recently had to start shopping because I am down to a size 20.

The last time I was a size 20 was in the eighties.  I do still have a few things from then. I had a ball trying on some of the dresses from that era.   But wont be wearing them anytime soon.lol.  the hardest thing I found was to start wearing tighter fitting clothes.  I can now, but took some doing because I see every flaw. .    I always keep a pair of jeans that are a couple of sizes bigger.  When I am having a day I don't feel I am doing as well as I should I will try them on.  It reminds me of where I was.  I would do the same thing look at a shirt think it would fit.  Bring it home and wonder why.  Now I look at my clothes and cant get over how small they look.

My support group dose have a clothing exchange.  I am a coupon shopper so I wait for sales.  Plus if you sign up on most store websites they will send you coupons and alert you of sales.

I know what you mean about smaller clothes, When I go to shop I look at like the size large shirts and the size 20 pants and they look soo small I'm like yeah right I could never be that small, that's something I look forward to , fitting into those tiny clothes lol

I am a BIG fan of Goodwill.  They always had a large variety of sizes.  I didnt get new clothes for a long time becuase my clothes didnt change that oftern, but soon when you lose 8-10 lbs it will be a clothing size.  :-)    I agree about the good bra and undies!!!  Go get fitted for a bra when you can.  Its a free service most place and makes a difference in how your clothes fit.

My clothes started looking like clown clothes by week 12 post surgery.

I'm with Kat. Goodwill is not the store it was when we were kids. It is bright, very easy to find the size and color you are looking for and best of all.......cheap.

I bought a pair of jeans (like new) and a top (new with tags) for 8 dollars. I have found cheap quality underwear/shapewear at Zulily. I also shop at Marshalls and TJ Maxx on their clearance rack. Walmart sells champion work-out clothing cheap.

The best clothes though, have been in my closet. I am amazed at  how much old clothes I kept hoping to someday fit that finally does. They are like old friends I have reconnected with. The best tho, is when they get too big too. Enjoy!

See I don't have any clothes at various sizes because I guess in some ways I didn't gain that fast, and I wear my clothes out and I mean holes etc. due to the fact that I hate shopping, so anything I would've had from smaller sizes would've been thrown out years ago.  I do have some 3x dress shirts that are kind of my goal shirts for maybe mid june to early july.  I remember when I got them I thought I was a 3x, but they were not super tight, but tight enough to be uncomfortable and to short on me.  I just tried them on about a week ago and they are a little looser and a little longer and I really want to be able to start wearing them in my goal time, because I always wear black and these actually have some color and I think that would be a big leap upwards for me in my journey and would make me feel good, and then once those shirts are hanging off of me, and I mean literally hanging lol, I might attempt to go shopping.  I can't really buy anything until I lose a few sizes anyways because I use to shop at fashion bug, it was the only place I could get something decent and now it's just walmart since fashion bug closed ugh lol
