Pre-Op 5% weight loss
Hello,
I'm very new to the whole forum thing! I set myself back I would have been meeting the surgeon but instead my Dr. wants us to meet once more and she really wants my to lose as much weight as I can! I have a month. I'm just Pissed at myself for not just really sticking to a diet to lose My 5% (18 lbs). I'm so so close I've done everything but lost my 5%. Of course now I have a plan in action. Anyone have any tips on how they lost weight pre-op?
Thanks Bella
I did not lose anything pre-op, but was not required to. If I were you, i would do a full liquid diet for 2 weeks and that should do it. Or do 3 shakes a day and eat a sensible dinner. Just play the game at this point to get your surgery scheduled. I needed surgery to be successful.
I lost 20 pounds using bariatric advantage during my 2 week pre-op liquid diet. I think I had 4 or 5 shakes a day.

5% I wish my surgeon is requiring me to lose 12% his normal is 10% but I started with a bmi of 72 and my surgeons max is 70
but he made an exception because I had already lost a documented 25 lb < which he does not count toward the 12%, also they marked down the wrong weight so I need to lose an extra 10 lbs , they refused to correct the error , saying that I will be safer for surgery if I lose more , I need to lose 5 lb more this month before they will secdule my surgery, the endoscope and colonoscopy this week should help with no food at all for 24 hours , this will be 7 months , but im not sorry about the time It is teaching me to eat right and have time for the tons of tests my surgeon requires, I think every doctor in the state has seen me getting ready for surgery , and the only one against the surgery was my old pcp that I had to force to send in a reffro , then I changed to a better doctor thats in all the way with this change , my hematologist says he wishes I could do without the surgery because of the risk , but that not losing the weight is a bigger risk
myfitnesspal.com is one of the biggest help also my hubby and son calling me out if im about to eat something I should not eat , or get lazy about the gym, I go 6 days a week , the most oversize I have gotten in my life
find a great support group also helps
why does your doctor have this power to hold up surgery with your surgeon ? I'm confused. Per insurance, I was required to have X amount of months weigh-ins/doctor-overwatched diet attempt. Sure my doctor wanted me to lose weight, but my requirements were set by my insurance and my surgeon. My surgeon had 5% weight loss required for me too, that would have been 19 lbs for me. AFter three months of checking off all the preop testing, labs, and checkups... I too had only the 5% weight loss left and no I hadnt been successful in that department, i had only lost 5 lbs out of 19. I called my surgeon's office and told them I had all my requirements done and now just had to work on the remainder of my 5%. they told me then that it would not hold things up and had me make an appointment with the surgeon at that point to come in and go over all the paperwork from all the preop labs and visits. At that visit, she set my surgery date for 2 weeks later.
Call your surgeon and let them know where you're at and see what they say. Really, this has little to do with your general practitioner. The surgeon is the ringleader here, with your insurance being also at play, you want to please them so they'll pay!
The Dr I am referring to isn't my general Dr. I apologize if I wasn't really clear. I am in a program specific for surgical weight loss. This Dr basically works with the surgeon, she makes sure I have everything ready and that I am good to go once I meet with the surgeon. I don't have to lose the 5% but they would like to see me come down. They really like for the BMI to be under 60. I hope that makes sense about the program and Dr. I'm not sure if anyone else knows what I mean.
I was told to lose 10%! :( 5% should be a walk in the park for you!
Right now I am doing 2 protein shakes a day, one in the morning and one at night. For lunch i have a lean cuisine and of course getting in a whole bunch of water in between.
Don't worry about only having a month left, just focus on losing what you can. Good luck :)
