Hello all,

I'm new to posting in this forum but not new to OH.  I am hoping to have surgery next month once school is out (I teach high school), and am meeting with my surgeon again on the 16th, when we will set a date and all that good stuff.  I have met with my NUT and gotten the guidelines for the pre-op diet and the info about the various stages and such.  My question is, what sort of pre-op testing did your doctor require?  I'm wondering if I will need to take a day off to do any of it.  The end of the school year is a tough time to take off, but if I need to do it, you know I'm going to!

Thanks in advance...this site is a great resource and you all provide a wealth of knowledge and expertise.

Let's see: preop was blood work, an EGD, an appointment with the surgeon who fixed my hiatal hernia during my bypass, and an in office ekg. I did not need a sleep study since I was already on a cpap. Plus I had to havr an arterial blood gas test at the hospital.

Thanks for the info!  I've been on a CPAP since March, so that's done.  I figured blood work would be de rigueur.  What's an EGD?  If I need an EKG, I wonder if my PCP can do it?

An EGD is an upper endoscopy--a bird's eye view of you esophagus and stomach. My surgeon did my EKG in his office.

I also needed a stress test , physic test  , repeated blood tests , needed to lose 12% of my extra weight (50 lbs), seen a physical therapist

 endoscope , and colonoscopy

my surgeon is very safety conscious  and checks for everything to make  shore you come through there surgery    safely  with no complications

it is better to wait a few extra months and be safe

I had my ekg and stress test done by a cardiologist, my blood checked by a hemotolostist , they found out I have lupus antigen a genetic clotting disorder   that needs treating during surgery or it can kill you   I never knew about it
