Plateau - Frustration
Hi All,
I'm new to posting on here, and really looking for some advice from folks who have been through this experience. I'm six months post op. I've lost a total of 99 lbs since the 2 week pre-op liquid fast and surgery. Now, I've hit a plateau that has lasted 3 weeks. Does anyone have suggestions on how to break thru this, and also how to best deal with the frustration it is causing me? I've been following all the protein, water, and exercise guidelines. Feeling a bit down, and looking for some guidance.
Thank you All
Plateau's will come and then go! They can be so frustrating to deal with! Focussing constantly on that "number" on the scale...... Step away from the scale for a bit. Tweak your exercise and or along with your eats/drinks. Our bodies like guess what is next as to not get used to one thing. But sometimes the plateau is our bodies way of catching up!!
Hang in there, if your following plan and getting your exercise in, you will be fine and you be on the losing swing again until the next plateau, cause they will break and come again.
HENCE PATIENCE!!
This is a life long journey.
Congrats on your success of losing thus far!!! That is awesome!!
Hugs
I'm only 4 months out so I don't have the experience to give you advice but I wanna say CONGRATULATIONS on losing almost 100 pounds in 6 months!!!!! That is amazing. I bet that you are probably feeling completely different than you were 6 months ago. I know even stalling for a few days or a week can get me frustrated but we have to push through. I really like Lucky2Talk2's idea of stepping away from the scale and changing things up with your eating plan. Can you maybe take a fitness class or find a swimming pool to go to? I'm not sure if you live in a city that has Groupons but I have found some cheap fitness classes through Groupons to try.
I really hope your stall breaks soon so you don't get discouraged! Keep up the amazing work!

I've never found a way to break a stall that works for me except time. Some folks have great success with bumping their calories a bit or mixing up their workout routine. As Sherry said, patience is key. When the scale is sailing downward, it is easy to get caught up in the excitement. But it is imperative that we find other ways to celebrate and acknowledge our achievements. For example, I bet it is much easier to bend over and tie your shoes now than it was 99 pounds ago. And I bet you are enjoying feeling better than you have felt in a long time. Just the little things are so much easier with less weight pulling us down.
I also second Kat's suggestion about measurements. Sometimes you will see a smaller measurement but not a corresponding drop on the scale. So chin up. Don't let the scale be the only way you define your success. It is just one measurement. It tells nothing of you as a person except how much you weigh.
take care and keep us posted. Oh, and congratulations on 99 pounds lost!

Hi Rudi,
I hit my first major plateau at 6 months as well but the inches were melting off me because i worked out so hard during that time period.
You cant break it, your body has to play catch up. You will lose again. I promise.
Right now, continue to do the right things and instead of looking at the scale to see loss, look at the inches. Journaling also helps.
Good Luck,
Sharon
