Infomercials

Not sure if I am spelling infomercials right but I think that's pretty close! :-)

Anyway, I was up early on Saturday morning at the hotel before any of my friends and was just laying there flicking through the channels on the TV.  I stopped on an infomercial for these workout DVDs that are supposed to be great for women and sculpt and tone and blah blah blah.  I found myself getting wrapped up in the promises and the excitement of the program.  I had a fleeting thought about maybe ordering them and this could help me get toned and the eating guide might have these great plans that I could follow and then I was like.. Seriously, Karin?  After all that you have done recently... going through surgery and going to the gym 5 times a week and eating healthy foods and losing 74 pounds, you are STILL looking for a miracle?? You are still waiting for the next big thing to come along and be the one thing that will keep you from ever binging or being lazy or gaining weight.

I was constantly looking for a diet book or new weight loss program or diet pill that would magically erase my food issues and keep me thin before surgery. Why am I still trying to do this?  I am going to therapy and dealing with my food issues head on.  I am doing great with my plan now and I am happy with it. So why the frick am I still looking elsewhere? Am I still just trying to get that quick fix? Why? I know I'm the only one that can answer those questions, but has anyone else dealt with this after surgery? Are you still trying to find more and more ways to lose weight? Are you still attracted to the fad diets and workouts of pre-surgery days? My goal after surgery was to never do a fad diet again.  I want to be healthy and eat nutritious food that is good for me. I don't want to ever put my body through crazy diets again. So why are they still calling my name???

Thanks for reading... I just need to think this stuff out. :-)

I relate. Marketing is designed to pique our interest and get us to spend. I watched the Insanity infomercial and got excited. Reality tells me I need to start smaller since I am not in great shape. Diet/exercise/weight loss is a billion dollar industry thanks to 1. our desire to be healthy, fit, and hot and 2. the millions they spend on advertising. So do not beat yourself up. They are selling hope. It is easy to get swept up.

But you have all of us and the will to stay the course. You were momentarily tempted. It's okay. We are here and we get it.

Thanks, Kate.  I just don't wanna be that old Karin that kept finding these new crazy ways to lose weight and would binge and not move at all until I "started my new diet".  I'd go to Barnes and Noble and pick up tons of diet books and read them in the cafe with my cheesecake or pretzel and pick one that I wanted to do and tell myself I would start Monday.  Then the next few days until Monday were an all-out pig out. Shameful... I do not want to be like that ever again.  But you are so right, they are so good at tempting us and making us think this will be the one that works for good this time! That's shameful too....

Your post is serious I know. It is sad that they market like that but that is what it is. You are not alone. The WLS journey is not easy.... Nor is sticking to any kind of diet and exercise. Losing weight is easy for anyone that has the concept and actions to lose and the strength to perservere! Those marketing gimmics are out there to catch our attentions and try to make us think that it will be easy and simple to not have to really put all the work into all the areas needed to lose and maintain weight loss. The concepts are easy, but the actions can be challenging. You had a fleeting thought about ordering but did not order. You are still working on you, it is ok! You know what you are doing and how you need to do and be in this life long journeyI
Your are rocking your journey and this is life long. The phrase "the grass usually looks greener on the other side of the fence".... we are human and things that look easier are not always the best for us. Again you were aware of what your brain was starting to think and you put action into you brain and talked real talk to you! Cudos!1

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!!         SHERRIE <3
