Second NUT Visit & CPAP !!!

So I had my second NUT visit today and I lost 13 lbs!! I am so excited!! She said she was really pleased with the protein shakes I am drinking for breakfast & lunch and then a healthy dinner. I just have to keep it going through September and then all my requirements will be completed and everything sent to insurance for approval.
Now, on the CPAP - I have my follow up appt. with the pulmonary doc to go over my sleep study results and I have mild obstructive sleep apnea but my oxygen levels drop from 95% to 79% when I stop breathing - not good. I also have restless leg syndrome. So I am now the proud (or not so proud) owner of a CPAP machine with a full face mask as I get congested with allergies and breath through my mouth. Now I just have to get used to the mask and try to sleep - blah!
Anyway, the 13 lb loss is super exciting since I have just made the eating adjustments and not started exercising yet. I did get my stationary bike yesterday and my wonderful hubby put it together for me and I will start tomorrow with riding it each evening.

Great job on the loss! I started off as the reluctant owner of a CPAP, but it has made such an improvement on my sleep and quality of life that I can't hate on it anymore, even though it is super, super sexy.

My hubby called me Hannibal Lecter!! I told him I would make fava beans for dinner with a nice chianti!!! I love my hubby. The plus is that last night I did not snore at all, and he commented on that this morning, "wow, you did not snore at all last night". I said " aren't you glad I am now Hannibal"". Hee Hee!! I do fell more awake this morning. I just have to get used to not sleeping on my stomach with my face planted in the pillow

My husband couldn't mock me because he already had a CPAP himself :) I was a mouth breathing stomach sleeper when I got mine. I've now learned to be a nose breathing back sleeper, and I think it's a lot better for me overall. My back doesn't hurt in the morning anymore. You'll get the hang of it :)

seems like almost everyone with a sleep study gets a cpap , I got one and tryed a dozen different full face masks for the same reasons you have the full face mask , then I tryed my hubbys swift fx nose pillow ,which I did not think would work , but that worked the best for me , so see if you can try it, im a mouth breather also but learned to keep my mouth shut

great work with the weight lose ,but don't be surprised if you have a stall , I was losing 7-14 lbs every month and last month (my 5 month ) only lost 1 lb while I stick on my plan  and track everything that goes in my mouth

I remembered you post from another thread and I did ask about the swift fx nose pillows and the therapy/fitting guy said I really should try the mask first since I have allergies that make me stuffed up and then I mouth breath. He said if I could not get used to full mask in 1 week, come back and I could try the nose pillows and see how that goes. My pulmanoligist did say he expects the obstructive apnea to go away completely with significant weight loss - fingers crossed. I so and really going to try and get used to this mask hoping I will only have it for 1 - 2 years.
You know when I weight at the NUT visit, I was shocked I had lost 13 lbs in 4 weeks b/c I have not started exercising yet. I so am prepared to see the loss come to the average 1 per week. As long a I can keep it all of thought the next 5 months!!! My surgeon wants a 10 lb loss prior to surgery, so I am nervous I will screw it up!
I love all the comments, support and "kicks in the booty" from everyone!! This is a great place!!

10 lbs I wish my doctor wants 50 lbs not counting the 25 I lost between the seminar and seeing the doctor for the first time

plus they wrote down the wrong weight for the first visit had me weighting 10 lbs less than I really weight and they will not change that , before the surgery I will have lost around 75 lbs,but losing has always been easy its the keeping it off that sucks

I get the same oxygen levels as you without the cpap , its just an other part of the work to get healthy

keep up the great work

You are doing fantastic.

I think many of us have sleep issues when we are larger.

I suffered from poor sleep for years until I lost weight. Now I sleep like a baby.

Congrats on a great journey!

Hugs,

Sharon
