What's your BMI and do you (did you) have a goal?
I was writing a blog today and just kind of poking around on my OH profile and saw my BMI. My current BMI is 45.2 and I couldn't remember where I started at. So I did the BMI calculation for my highest weight and it was 55 when I was at 362.
That's amazing to me! I haven't really been paying attention to my BMI since I have so much other stuff to focus on, like weight, carbs, calories, protein, etc. So I thought I would share that my BMI has dropped almost 10 whole points! I'm pretty proud of that. I think my goal BMI is anything under 30. For my height (5'8), I would need to be under 195 to have a BMI of less than 30. I have a very large frame and bone structure but I think that's doable. My goal weight right now is 180 but keeping my weight under 195 to put me in the 29 or 28 BMI range will be my maintenance goal.
What BMIs did everyone else start at and where are you now? Do you have a goal in mind as to what BMI you want to be?
Have a great day, friends!!

My BMI was 60.4 when I started. Today it's 28.8. I originally set my weight goal at 180 lbs which would put me right at 25. I'm still working on getting to that goal - I have about 20 lbs to go, but my IDEAL goal weight would be 165 and a BMI of 23. I doubt I'll ever get to that weight, but I'll decide that once I hit 180 first.
Im over BMI though....ultimately, when my head is screwed on a little straighter, Id like to focus more on overall body comp (lean muscle mass vs. body fat %) since BMI doesnt accurately reflect healthy body comps.

I do agree, BMI doesn't take into account muscle vs. fat or bone structure usually. That's why I'm not going to try to even see myself in the "normal" range. I just know that my body will not be able to maintain 164 which is the highest weight for me to be a normal BMI.
Thanks for your input. It's amazing how far you have come!!
My original goal was to be under 200 lbs. Maybe 180. For my height and frame I think I would look much better.
My psychologist and surgeon have told me not to make scale goals like that. The general statistics show that you will lose approx half your excess weight or a third of your body weight. Meaning I will probably lose approx 100lbs putting me around 250 give or take.
I have since been told by many people on OH that this is rediculous and i should expect to do much better than that.
So, I dont know what my goal is. I guess it is justto take my health back into my own hands. My ultimate goal..to have a baby (that is what started this whole thing).
I am 46 years old and 5' 7" tall. My highest weight was 339, with a BMI of 53. My surgeon's goal for his patients is to have a BMI under 30 (no longer obese). My goal was originally to get to a BMI under 25 (159 pounds). My ultimate goal was 140, which I have reached and maintained (a BMI of 22).
I think goals are important.

I think body fat percentage is much more important. When I had mine tested in the fall it was 36%. I want it under 30%.
Weight and size does not have as much correlation as we think it does. I wear a 14 now. I have a friend of the same height and dress size who outweighs me by about 30 lbs.

My starting BMI was 60.5 (375 pounds), now it's 25.7 (at 159.2 pounds).
I want to get to "normal" BMI, which is under 25, so 154 pounds would put me into normal range.
Right now, I'm aiming for 150 pounds, but the closer I get, the more I think 140, but I'm not ready to make that a goal yet. I actually have kind of a small frame so I'm just going to go with it. Where ever I end up from here is where I end up.
My scale's body fat thing says I'm around 35% fat. I know they aren't accurate, but I'm not ready to do a bod pod yet. Maybe after plastics :)

Thanks for the replies! All very interesting. I agree that it is important to have goals, whether it's BMI or body fat or dress size. Like Candy is doing, I'll probably have to tweek my goal as I get closer to it. Right now I am too far out to really be sure where I want to end up but I know that having a set goal in mind motivates me. I don't want to stop anytime soon!
Love hearing from everyone!! Keep up the fabulous work!
