When did you start to notice your weight loss?
Hi there 50+ club!
Quick question... when did you (and others) start to notice your weight loss? I have lost almost 40 pounds but I can't really tell yet. I feel better and my jeans and pants are a TINY bit looser but they definitely aren't falling off yet. I know for lightweights, 40 pounds means like 2 dress sizes but not me! I moved away from my home town before the surgery but I am in contact with lots of people there and also still work for the same company, they just let me work remotely from home. I still talk to a lot of my coworkers every day. So everyone knows that I have had the surgery (cus I took time off work and news spreads fast). Everyone keeps asking me how much I have lost and it was fast at first but now slow going. When I say 38 pounds they are all like "WOW, can't wait to see you" but I don't look any different yet!
I didn't want to go bac****il I had lost more but I volunteered to go back this weekend to help a friend move out of her abusive boyfriend's house. I just don't want people to see me expecting I'm gonna have this dramatically different look when I don't. To "normal" people who aren't Superhero Morbidly Obese like myself, 38 pounds is a lot. To me, its a drop in the fat bucket!
So, if anyone can tell me how much you lost when you actually started to see a real difference, that would help me! Thanks!!

Thanks, Kendra!
I see you are about 3 months out and I am guessing that's probably about when I will really start to see the changes. By then I hope to be in the 200s but with the way the scale is torturing me these past few days, who knows!?!? Guess I'm just impatient for change.
Oh and I carry most of my weight in my hips and thighs so that will be the last thing on me to go. Congrats on 60 lbs!!!

No problem hun. And you're right about the 200's thing. I am down 76 lbs overall since August and I am now at 305. I am so close to the 200's I can taste it. I swear. I can't even remember the last time I saw the 200's.....my freshman or sophomore year of college maybe?????? Also, I too believe that where I carry my weight will be the last place to go. My husband was rubbing lotion on my legs one day and was like wow, look at how my hands fit around your legs now, lol. And I was like yeah, but its still not moving from my tummy! Oh, and thank you. :-)
To be honest I just have fat goggles on. I don't see it when I look in the mirror. My pants fall off I had to go down sizes, my shirts are all baggy. But to me I still look just as fat as ever. I'm down over 100lbs and there are little things I notice but really I think I will end up being a size 16 and still see the 452 lb me, I'm hoping not though.
I know that a lot of people have the same problem. They say it can take years for your head to catch up to your body. When I was 17, I lost about 90 pounds and was the smallest I have ever been as an "adult", about 160 pounds. I was so tiny and I looked in the mirror and saw that 160 pound person but I wasn't satisfied. I didn't appreciate at all the size I was. I look back at pictures and I was utterly SKINNY, I tell you! I even lost my period for 6 months because my body fat was so low and I was exercising so much. But I couldn't see it. All I saw was the number on the scale and that all my friends were size 4 and 120 pounds. I didn't understand that my bones and height and body makeup was different and so I started binging and purging and going on crazy diets to try and lose or maintain my weight... obviously it didn't work so well!!
I hope we both can wrap our heads around this crazy ride. I am ready to stop seeing the 362 pound person!!!
I didn't notice it until my clothes were baggy. I have to lose about 15-18 lbs now to lose a size, but in the beginning I had to lose almost 40 pounds before my clothes were baggy. And even though they were baggy, I still felt pretty large.
Other people noticed before I did, though. Now at 17 months, I still feel enormous some days and regular other days. It really seems to be a head trip more than anything else.

Totally agree... It is a lot in the head. I am watching myself like a hawk though. LOL I wanna start seeing changes so bad. I guess because this is the biggest I have been in my life, its different losing weight at this stage. Last time I went to WW and really started losing weight, I guess I was about 320 so 20 or 30 pounds made a really big difference to me. So maybe from this weight now, I can expect another 20 or 30 to be what I need to start seeing changes.
Thanks for the feedback!
I haven't had surgery yet, but I've been successful with the supervised diet so far and I'm down 60 lbs. I can tell that I've lost weight.... but it does seem like it's been a little bit from all over. I've noticed that my shirts are longer (lost from boobs/stomach), I've gone down 1-2 pant sizes depending on the style.... but nobody has really noticed. My husband definitely hasn't noticed, he claims it's because he "sees me every day"... I think he's just a non-observant man! lol.... he's in pretty good shape but has lost 15 lbs in the last month and I can definitely tell on him.
It is kind of depressing. The only people that have noticed are people that will tell me I look like I've lost weight even when I have GAINED weight lol.... but I know how I FEEL inside and I know what it felt like today when I put on a pair of jeans that when I was 25 lbs down I couldn't even get over my hips. So, I try not to get TOO discouraged :)

You haven't been just successful at your supervised diet, Nikke..... You have been AMAZING!!!!!!!! I am really in awe of you especially because I ate like a pig before my surgery. LOL I lost 9 pounds before and that was probably all in the week before on my liquid diet! You have done so great!
I am hoping that by about 60 pounds too, I'll start to notice. I think all of the sudden one day, people will look at us and realize that HEY, We've lost weight! I asked my husband the other night if I look smaller and he said yes. So then I didn't believe him so I asked him why he hadn't said anything. He said he knows better than to comment on my weight... EVER. LOL I think I have scared him of ever even mentioning the word around me. SO not really sure if he can tell a difference or not but I'll take it. :-)
