how many calories do you eat a day!!
What surgery, how long post-op, and what's your protein goal and other dietary requirements? These will all have an impact.
I had RNY, am almost 15 months post-op, with a goal of 65g protein a day (my program uses 65 for under 5-4 women, 75 for taller).
With those constraints, during the losing phase they want to keep things to a max of 850-900 calories a day.

I'm 4.5 years out and at goal. I average 1700-2000 calories a day.

What a great question. I am 9.5 months out and cannot give you a good answer, because I struggle with this myself.
After surgery I ate 800 calories per day, 80 gms of protein and lost like a champ. I was completely inactive.
After incorporating lite walking into my day, I upped my protein by 20 gms and still lost like crazy.
Then I started working out like an athlete for about 1.5 hours per day. This is when things got switched. You'd think I would lose even more??? Nope i stalled. I lose like 3-4 lbs and then nothing for 6-10 weeks. I do not know if it is because I am not eating enough....or if I am eating too many carbs. I cannot work out without carbs. I am too tired and weak. So, I am in a quandary.
I do about 40 minutes of cardio a day and then about 50 minutes of weight training on the machines and with bands. I do this 4-5 days per week. At least 2 days a week I swim. I am strong, I have muscles, I am losing inches, but I am not losing pounds like i used to. I am not freaked out, but I am confused.
Yesterday i started using a FITBIT and based on my weight goals and the amount of activity i do, i should be eating 2800 calories per day. That surprised me. I don't eat that much. I clocked all my meals yesterday and ate 1/2 that much. There is no way I can eat that much. I did eat 100 gms of protein yesterday.
So the answer to your question? I don't know.
Hope to hear from the vets on this one.
Hugs,
Sharon
To answer YOU and the original poster, I eat about 800 calories a day, most of the time less then this, except when I have my period I seem to be starving, bottomless! Lately, I lost 9 ponds in 2 weeks, and it was after I stopped logging everything and allowed myself to eat more, and didn't weight for 2 weeks. I "evaluate" I was closer to 1000 or more. Those were the best
"mental" weeks since the beginning of my journey. But the need to log and weight everyday is coming back :(
Since the beginning of this adventure (and even prior****pt telling everyone that as soon as I exercised, I gained a few pounds then stopped losing. This puts me down so much. I think you are a rock to keep exercising! I know I can't. Why is it like that? NOBODY so far got an answer for me! I can even tell you that prior surgery, my last diet was1200 calories with cardio and weight training 4 times a week and I was 300 pounds and NEVER LOST one pound for 3 months. I physically looked better but I didn't go down on sizes or weight.
I am therefore scared to train, even to run or walk OR EVEN EAT!!! So you are AMAZING!
