Hello !

I've been looking people who have had over 150+ to lose.  I've been researching WLS for 3 years now.  The fear of dying just overwhelmed me.  I weigh 415 right now, and was told by a surgeon it's just to risky if you're over 400 lbs.  I see from some of your posts I'm not alone .

I'm married to a Marine who weighs far less than me.  He's something like 170 , I would kill to be 170 .  So it's time for me to make a change.  No more thinking about it, I'm getting WLS.  I'm meeting with the surgeon Feb 6th . Last year at this time I was planning on getting surgery buy thanks to USMC we had our plans screws up. He's now deployed and I'm settled near family for the next year. They can help with my kids and I can focus on having WLS and getting healthy.

So happy I found this forum !

Yes, Welcome to this forum! We most of here if not all, have had to lose a higher amount of weight. We can share in our experiences as they look a little different from smaller large weights and making it to our desired "goal" weight.

So are you looking at seeing a different doctor regarding the WLS now!? The doctor that told you it was to risky to do at your weight, is there other issues besides obeisity... because if not it is to bad that he would want to scare you from having the surgery! Any surgery is risky when you go "under".
Weighing the pro and con to having surgery... doing your iformation research about the WLS's that are out there..(Notes that you are here in OH forums and in this forum!).... and desiding enough is enough! WLS is not for everyone. It is a life long journey you will going down. With the WLS "tool" and you using "it" right you can have success and for long term. Keeping supports around you that understand what you are simularly going through is key!
So many things change for alot of people. Scale victories (SV's) and Non Scale victories (NSV's) will happen. The percentages of bad things occurring to someone due to WLS is so VERY LOW when compared to the MANY GREAT things happen in peoples lives due to WLS!

We are all here!
Hugs to you and best wishes for a surgery before the end of the year!

I moved to a different state, that's why I switched surgeons.  The last one was excellent.

welcome , your first surgeon was right that the surgery is more dangerous if you weigh over 400 lbs but not having the surgery is also more dangerous

my surgeon wants me to lose 50 lb before the surgery to make it safer and recommends a sleeve  which is a safer surgery

at my weight , I have read the many surgeons believe that the sleeve is the best option if you  are a super heavey weight and have most of the weight on your belly

but many people have the ryn or the ds and do great

you need to find a very experienced  surgeon my dr. usually will not do surgery if your bmi is over 70 mine was 72 but he made an exception because I lost 25 lbs before I seen him and hhe wants an other 50 lbs before surgery

I was 426 lbs when I had my sleeve surgery last July. I had no complications and have now hit 100lbs lost since surgery. I started out at 452 and lost 26lbs before surgery from just diet change. I've 146 lbs left to lose. Don't let one doc stand in your way. Go to another and get a second opinion. Yes going under is always risky but so is life.

Believe me I have !  My insurance only covers a few of them

 Roux-en-Y gastric bypass

 Vertical banded gastroplasty

 Gastroplasty

Adjustable gastric banding   Out of those that's offered I've chosen RNY . The surgeon also said he highly recommended that WLS for me.

It true surgery is serious business life and death business.  But, What Is  worst being 415 pounds and slowly dying a little  bit every day.  You a Marines wife.  So do something to save yourself.  Anybody  I  know who has had the surgery.  The only they regret is not  having it sooner.  Some people  just can't lose the weight without the surgery.  Some body,s are just different.  This surgery is serious. People do die.  But, Also you could drop dead tomorrow of stoke or heart attack without the surgery. Most People after surgery I know  are happy and healthy after surgery.  But,  It the two year mark that make or breaks a person.  Fall back on habits.  That does that every person becomes skinny. No, But If you could drop 130 without exercise.  It get in shape enough can walk and exercise.  So that you can get serious and  drop the rest of the weight get healthy and live a better happier life with kids and husband. It decide the surgery for you. Remember to two years after had your surgery.  Always Remember how felt 415 pounds. No food is worth or dessert or soft drink is worst going back
