Welcome. Starting out at 300+ is a whole other bag of worms than starting at 225, so we "get you". Hang in there... it's a long road, but one worth traveling! xoxo

Hi Terri,
I started my sojourn on the VSG board and it helped me immensely as I tried to figure out how to prepare for the pouch and then rehabilitate after I had the surgery. I got tremendous support there. But it is here that I feel the camaraderie. I felt like I was on an island when my BMI was 56. Here, I feel like I am on an island with friends who know what it was like to live fat, invisible and miserable. And then to be able to watch these same people like me, lose weight, become fit and strong????? That my dear was a gift like I have never hoped for because i did not think it existed. It does here!!!!!
Welcome to one of the best forums on OH.
Hugs,
Sharon
Welcome!! I just started posting here, too. My highest BMI was 53 and I've been maintaining a BMI of 21 for over 3 years now. It is nice to have support of people who started out where we did.

yea this forum really helps us heavy weights I started with a bmi of 72 , 2 more than my doctor usually will take but he made an exception when he seen I lost 25 lbs before seeing him, he recommended the sleeve he thought it was safer for me and no one in this area does the ds and my insurance will not cover the ds
but many people do great on the sleeve and my doctors office has a great support group
us large people have to stick together even when we get smaller, trying for 100 lbs lost by labor day
We are a great group that comes through here. All sorts of surgeries, starting points, post's and pre's but with the common factor of higher starting weights wich most of the time means longer journey's to get to the goals. The "magic" window often does not apply to us in the same way it does to those who start at lower weights.
Hugs and much of best wishes to you in your journey!
I have mostly stuck with the RNY group since that is the surgery I had. However, my BMI was close to 55. So it is nice to see others who are in the same boat I am. I have seen the ones who have been able to make their goal weight in less than a year. My surgeon never gave me a goal weight. So when I went for my one month post-op I asked and the doctor asked me what I wanted it to be. Honestly, I just want off my meds and to be healthy. THey threw a number out there. If I make the weight they think I can then great but I don't think I am going to stress over it. I am happy to just be down 48 lbs since my surgery on 11-5, and 59 lbs overall. The 200's aren't that far for me now, only 22 lbs to go. And for the first time in my life I will be proud of that! I'm going to just keep on truckin' :-)
