I just used the bmi calculator on this site. I used my current weight and the damn thing said "uou are extremely overweight and qualify for weight loss surgery."

Granted I still have 60 pounds to lose to make my goal weight BUT how rude of that damn thing to say that LOL. I'm glad I'm not sensitive or disillusioned about my weight or my feelings woulda been hurt.

I wonder if that is new. I don't remember that before, but I probably wasn't paying attention.

Too bad you couldn't shoot the thing. It is already on my list for a couple of reasons.

 Hi Dori,

I think all those BMI scales need to be redone. I understand we live in an obese world but I know the scales want me at a very low BMI and weight to be considered "normal". I think the averages have my ideal weight at around 135. I know I look sick at that weight and will be 180 and be very happy. My dear friend is 4 inches shorter than me and is "normal" she weighs 165.

Thank goodness we have this forum to bounce ideas and thoughts off of each other. Otherwise I would be stressing about trying to lose 50 more lbs to fit into a formula that is not for everyone.

Best,

Sharon

Interestingly enough, the fact that I don't have a goal weight is what impressed the program I'm in.  I said my first priority is improving my health so I can get off most my meds.  Then I said that if I was pushed for something more specific then that, I would say to be a size 16 so that I could shop pretty much anywhere.

I think my high end of normal according to BMI is 155.  That's what one leg weighs for pete's sake!!

Just a wierd side note on BMI charts- When Arnold Schwarzenegger was at his Mr. Universe weight and ALL muscle his BMI showed he was overweight.  :-)   It does not take into account muscle vs fat.  Very flawed!!!

Lots of 5K's, 10K's., 4 1/2 Marathons, 3 Sprint Triathlon done. 2 Olympics and my  First IRONMAN 70.3 September 2013 and First Full Marathon Dec 2013  !!!!!
