VSG vs RNY
I am also a VSGer! I had my doubts! You know, just wondering if I had made the right choice!!! It didn't last long I have to say.
I am, this morning, 281.8 so a total loss of 78.2 in 3 months and half. I think it is a rapid loss comparable to RNYs
I also had a surgeon that is amongs the best in his field: Dr Gagner. And I remember asking him about the results and if he thiught VSG was a good surgery for large BMI and he swore that it was as good as RNY with comparable results long term.
RNY might be gold standard in most places but it is not the case everywhere. I was on the waiting list in the province of QC and my surgery was suppose to be in two steps: first a VSG and IF needed than the DS. It was a long time ago but I still remember the surgeon saying that he would rather let the person try it with the VSG alone which showed in a lot of cases more than satisfying results

You're most welcome, and good luck with YOUR decision!
You know, we give you what WE think, but you are the one that will have to deal with it your whole life, not us, and not the surgeons, so make a decision for YOURSELF.
All surgeries have their positive and negative (I haven't found any in VSG though hahahahahahahaha) so the decision belongs to you and only you.
Take care! Trust yourself!
Karine.

I actually signed up for the RNY surgery but signed off on the VSG as an alternative to RNY if when they opened up they couldn't do the RNY. I was wholeheartedly convinced the RNY was the procedure for me but alas when they opened me up I had a nonrotation of my intestines and they could not perform the RNY and I ended up with the VSG.
I was 390 pounds at my highest weight and 368.8 on the day of surgery. I am 8 months out from surgery and weigh 212 pounds. I feel fantastic. I truly believe that the VSG surgery is all that is and will be necessary for me. Now that I have learned so much more about the RNY I am grateful and count my blessings for not getting it done!! I feel this was a gift from god and totally the right way to go.

I really do appreciate the input guys. I think ultimately I am sticking with my original plan of VSG. I respect medical professionals and so when I had several recommending RNY it gave me pause for thought. Although, don't misunderstand, professionals do not know me better than I know myself.
I feel that I can look the surgeon in the eye and say that I am choosing VSG because it's best for me. I want a stomach that functions the way that God created it. With a family history of colon cancer, Crohn's AND ulcerative colitis (with NO concerns thus far), I believe that I am better to keep my intestines intact in case I need to have them cut out at a later date. Also, having that functioning stomach left over that can't be scoped to check for cancer down the road..... This is my choice.
Thanks for giving me your opinions so I could debate it out with myself
