Yup no doubt you can do it! They say this surgery isn't magic, but it's helped me so much. It' s not numbers or statistics or anything that determine your outcome. It's you! Look at all the procedures out there and choose what's right for you VSG, RNY, and DS. This is a hard road and I had to take it one step at a time. Lol first step was drinking water. Seems so easy now...but one step at a time you can get there. The hoop jumping grrrrrrrrrr...that's not fun. Lol but I was like Veruca Salt and I got my way! Just keep pushing for what you want. Surround yourself with positive support. That part for me made a huge difference.
Congrats on your journey. I started at 370lbs. With a BMI of 69
I had my surgery in January of this year. I am down 111.8 lbs
You will do great. Just do what they tell you. And you will succeed.
I can only tell you how great I feel. How much more I can do. I went to a outing this weekend. In the past I would worry about fitting places. For the most part I dont anymore. Its a great thing. Good Luck.

I was 462 pounds in November, started the preop diet for the Sleeve surgery, then day of surgery which was Feb 16th I weighed 438 pounds. Today I weighed in at 328 pounds. It has taken away most of my hunger and that need to eat constantly. I feel like this surgery was a miracle & it was the best decision of my life.
Thanks for sharing with me. One of my fears is that I won't stick with my new/needed eating habits after the surgery. I have a huge sweet-tooth. I love carbs. I love to eat. My husband calls me an opportunity eater....I'll eat any/everytime the opportunity arises. Do you think that will change once I have the surgery? I really want to succeed and would love to be at a healthy weight for once in my life.

Will it change or will you make it change? That is the question!
It's a scary road, but to me so far, even though I am still scared of re binging again, it's still worth it.
I now have a better relation to food more and more everyday! Oh not perfect yet, but learning so much!
All of this cannot be bad, it can only be better! Well for me! Now it is up to you and only you to decide if you think it is worth giving it a try, even though it might be hard, even though it might require you to change your relation to food!
Good luck with this!

I haven't had my surgery just starting the process and have my information meeting on oct 3rd then i have a phone call from a RN from my insurance co on oct 5th. The surgery center has already gotten my doctors referral and my insurance does cover WLS so now it's just going through the process. In April 2011 i weighed in at my highest ever 401lbs with a bmi of 61. Right now i weight 340lbs and i believe my bmi is 53? I lost 61lbs on my own through diet and exercise. My mom had gastric bypass in 2001 and weighed 385ish pre op and got as low as the high 190's. So yes it is very possible. We are both beginning this journey.. we can do it!
I started out well over 400. I have lost 237 in 13 months I had the DS on August 2011. Its doable but you have to be willing to make the changes to stay healthy. Do your research and figure out what will work for you and what you can live with. Everything changes after surgery as well, cravings taste buds. You can do it. Hope you found a good surgeon with great respect for you as well.
Good luck

My BMI was 73 at 441 lbs. It was HARD, but I now weigh 160 lbs. It can be done, but you HAVE to put yourself first and keep your eyes on the prize. Use your RNY tool every day, make it work for you!
