Heading into week 3-Wheeee!
VSG on 07/20/12
Heading into week 3 after surgery and I am feeling great! I love my sleeve. Ok yes I would probably kill for a slice of pizza or some bbq because I've been smelling people cooking all week around the neighborhood but I just grab my protein drink and go for a walk.
I'm rather disappointed in my exercise because I can only walk about 45 minutes before I have to stop. I still get this weird pulling feeling in my gut. NOt exactly painful but uncomfortable. So I've been doing several 30 minute walks about 3 times a day. It helps get me going but doesn't overtax me.
I added to my liquid diet some V8 juice which really tasted amazing and really helped me cut down on some of the cravings I was having. I think I was missing something in nutrients even with my vitamins. Drinking the juice really filled me up and killed that feeling. I did go over my calories though because I drank two glsases of it instead of one. But I'm using MFP to track so I will be more careful.
I almost feel like this has been too good to be true because I haven't had any issues getting my protein in or drinking my fluids. I've go****er bottles marked so I know how much water I've consumed. I can drink at any pace really and don't have to take small sips. Not sure if this is normal or what. I suppose it could be because I have a size 36 bougie but honestly I am not going to look this gift horse in the mouth. I would hate having problems drinking water cause I am a water person.
Monday I go back to work and I am starting my new job. I'm excited because I really feel like this is just one more step for the brand new me. A new job, a new tummy, and a whole new life just waiting for me to live it!

Totally agree. Post-op has been a real learning experience. The other night i had a real melt down. I was tired and it was a beautiful night out. I sooooo wanted to sit outside, enjoy a cigarette, a glass of wine, and a big juicy hamburger with everything. The bad news was I quite smoking almost a year ago, I can't drink, and I can't eat. It was then that I realized all my coping mechanisms had disappeared. It was rather a shock to my brain. The funny thing is I realized that so far, I'm doin ok. Of course the real stress starts when I go back to work in a week. I have also been drinking the V8 juice. just sooths the stomack for some reason.
The fact that you are walking 45 minutes is GREAT. I did not exercize until i was 4 weeks out and started at 20 minutes. Then to walk 90 minutes per day? Excellent! You are doing wonderful.
I could not stomach any acids so soon after my surgery. The fact that you can drink V8 is amazing.
You will be skinny before you know it!
Best,
Sharon
