 Hello,

Im not new to OH but I am to this forum. I was actually starting to get discouraged with some of the post on the other forum and not only that but the DRAMA is unreal. Well that aside let me introduce myself. My name is Jess I am 24, I am 5'6 and right now I weigh 384. I started out at 411. I am scheduled for surgery on August 14th and let me tell you I am so excited. My goal weight is 125-140lbs. IS this possible? I come here not only to seek advise but to know that there are people out there that will support you and not just tell you that this is the easy way out. I am SO tired of hearing that. On the other forum I felt out of place because alot of the people were not as big as I am when they started this journey. I will not lie I am a BIG girl but I also have feelings. Please tell me what it was like after surgery for you seeing as we are all pretty close to the same size. I know that it will effect everyone differently but how quick did you lose?  I want to know it all..

Thanks so much
Jess

Hi Jess,

Welcome to an amazing room on OH. The people here are very helpful and very giving of their experiences.

I too am a big gal. I started at 356, I am 5'5. I was a tight 4X and could not wear anything from most big gal stores like Lane Bryant. I've lost 72 lbs and have gone down 4 sizes.
I have another 109 lbs to lose. The journey is awesome and I am enjoying the rebirth of myself each day.

I had my surgery on 04/16 and it was the greatest day of my life. It was my second birthday. I feel like i am in control of who I am again.

Yes, you can absolutely weigh 125 lbs. Many people on here have lost 200+ pounds.

Yes, there are many who only have 60-70 lbs to lose and reach goal in 6 months. I cannot relate to those people, but I respect their journey.

I felt fine after the surgery and had zero complications. I was very swollen for 6 weeks after the surgery and I lost a lot during that time. I have had 2 long stalls also. I am in one of those now, but i am not worried. I know i will start to lose again when my body is ready.

Good Luck on this journey.

Best,

Sharon

Hi Jess

Welcome to the forum.  August 14th will be here before you know it.

I had rny on January 16th of this year.  It was the best thing I ever did.  I am only 5'1 I weighed 369 when I had surgery.  6 months later I am down 98lbs.. I am a bit older than you OK a lot older.lol

I went back to work after 5 weeks.  What a difference there was already.  Walking to my desk from the parking lot was so much easier.  Now its so great to be able to fit in places.  I still want to lose at least 100 more pounds.  I should weigh in the 130 range not sure if I will get that low.  But I am going to try.  I will settle for 180. I decided I was not going to obsess over a goal weight for the time being.  See what my body dose.

You are in for the journey of your life.  I cant tell you how happy I feel each day.  I don't run from mirrors anymore.  I can stand to look at myself now.    I feel so much better.  I use to hate getting dressed for work.  Nothing fit me.  But now I can again shop at Lane Bryant and the Avenue.  I remeber some here said.  Most are fighting to get out of Lane Bryant I am fighting to get back in there.

Good Luck to you

Talula

Hey. I'm too sleepy to tell it "all", but I wanted to say, "welcome".  WELCOME!

My monthly loss numbers are below my ticker.  I haven't updated in a few months, but I think the first 8 or so months are there.

I was in therapy during my first 6 months which helped with a lot of the emotional stuff.  I also paid for my surgery with my savings account and credit card.  So, I wasn't about to mess around.

My biggest challenges post-op was drinking water. As a person who loves water, this was horrible.  Now I drink a lot more- no issues there. At the 6 month mark, my stomach seemed to suddenly have more room.  I don't feel deprived. I just make choices that support the lifestyle that I want.

I still rarely have physical hunger. And when I do, it is not as strong as pre-op.  Head hunger started after I moved half-way across the country by myself 2 months ago.  But I'm learning to deal with it.  I have to deal with it.

The number one things my friends say is that I seem happy.  That's because I am. I feel blessed everyday, even today when I'm feeling a little funky too.

I don't know where I will end up, but I do know where I am not going.

Good luck.

Hi Jess,

I'm looking forward to August 14th too, although that's cuz it's my birthday! LOL!

Seriously tho i wish you great luck on you upcoming surgery. I hope that you have done loads of research, and have been practicing all your good habits.

I wouldn't worry so much about a goal weight, but instead focus on following all the rules. It's rough in the beginning, but it gets easier and your life will be sooo improved.

Best of luck!

Hi,

Welcome to the forum.  I am almost one month post op, had a VSG.  I am 5'8'' and I started at 360.  After doing optifast for 2 weeks, I went down to 341.2.  Today, I am 320.8.

My dream weight wuold be between 145-160, but I am not too attached to these numbers, I think I will see along the journey where this all brings me.

I am not a quick loser, I have never been even when dieting.  So I expect my journey to be pretty long.  I have about 200 pounds to lose.

I wish you all the best the big day is coming soon!

Karine.
