Holy Overwhelming Batman!
Hi Everyone,
Just as i started to become more regular on the site, the surgeon's office surprised me with a surgery date. Normally, my surgeon requires a 10% weight loss prior to surgery but they schedule a date after a 5% loss. They had an opening for 5/24/12, and were eager to fill the slot with me because so many patients didn't want to have surgery before Memorial Day weekend. So I was sleeved 5/24, stayed in the hospital one night, went home and I am on the road to recovery.
I am feeling very overwhelmed. I started using the Spark People Diet and Calorie Tracker for my phone. I ate 60 grams of protein yesterday so that was a success. The app helps to motivate me. Until now, I was avoiding protein shakes but with the app, I see how they are a lot of bang for relatively little effort. My surgeon's office did not give any advice about carbs or calories so I feel nervous that I am going to mess something up. In reality, I ate 652 calories, 84 carbs and 10 fat. I even ate some TCBY. My goal is to not be a slave to obsessing about what I am eating. I want to be able to make good choices the majority of the time and move past the bad choices that will inevitably happen. I am trying to not obsessively weigh myself and just use the scale as a tool.
I haven't been moving as much as I should because I am feeling a painful pulling sensation in my middle incision. I am assured that this is normal. I am ok with normal. I am just feeling my tolerance for pain and discomfort wane as time goes on.
I can't wait to go back to work and get back to some normalcy. I will get back into being an active poster.
Thanks for letting me vent. Writing things out is always helpful.

Congrats on having your surgery soooooo quickly. In---out---done---and recovering.
Take it slow as you build your strength up and recoup. Drink tons of fluids and walk as much as you can.
Fluids and protein shakes---name of the game right now!!!! Good luck and ask any questions if you get too overwhelmed. We're all here to help.

Congrats on the surgery!!
I would recommend spending time on the VSG forum re: nutrition advice and post wls plans. I know your doc didnt give you specifics but honestly, yoU may just want to look and see what the long term successful vets have done. It concerns me that your surgeon doesn't have a well thought out and easy to follow plan.
Make sure you post often for support and join in our Monday weigh ins.
