You don't look like you've had surgery
So as many of you know I limited the amount of people I told about my surgery, only my family and close friends know (about 40 people).
So I was having a conversation with a lady at work about losing weight. She said she wanted to lose weight on her own and she didn't want to be "cut up" so she went on to say how good I look and she figures she can't exercise like me and get the results that she wants. I just couldn't not say anything so I told her I had surgery. She looks at me with her mouth wide open and said "but you don't look like you had surgery. I can usually tell when people have that surgery they look different. I would've never guessed you had surgery. You look so healthy" I just laughed and said of course I look healthy why wouldn't I?
Today at Zumba there was a lady who commented on my weight and said I looked good. I stood there and talked to her for a while about her weight loss because she had loss about 50lbs since i saw her last. Then she says "did lose weight naturally or did you have surgery like Tarsha? (our mutual friend) I told her I had surgery and she said "WOW you don'tlook like you had surgery"
So now I'm wondering What do people who've had weight loss surgery look like? Has anyone ever heard people say this?

Thats too funny!! I can usually tell when someone has had brain surgery, bet these two did LOL. I will have to watch for people with this seventh sense after my surgery. t
I don't know if I'm going to get slapped for this but I can see it on a lot of people. I can spot it a mile away on a lot of people. I call it the "Gastric Bypass Body." Of course it can be any surgery but that's before I knew of the other surgeries. I can usually tell by the skin issues (in excess) and a certain shape and also a lot of times the way someone walks/ their posture. Of course if the person has plastic surgery it's different. Just start looking around, you can tell. I'm not talking about people who have surgery when they start out at 200 pounds either...
With some of us starting out so heavy it may be harder to tell if we are still pretty heavy but I guarantee when we get into the lower BMIs it will be more difficult to avoid that look. When I get down below 200 I am going to have that look for sure. There's just no way to avoid it sometimes.
That's just my honest opinion from observing for years. No one has to agree with me but it's definitely what I've seen.

I agree to a certain extent. All people who lose a large amount of weight may have excessive amounts of loose skin. I don't think the way you lose the weight will make a difference. My sis in law had rny and she looks awful. She doesn't really have any loose skin she just looks greyish and old from being severely anemic and not takings her supplements (also drinking & smoking). I know 2 other people that seems to have really long faces sinces surgery, I don't know what that's about.
Twice before I have loss the same amount of weight that I have lost since my surgery (unfortunately I've gained it back both times) and my body looks no different now. I'm only about 7mths post op so hopefully I will lose another 80 pounds or so who knows what I will look like that at that point. Whaterever the pst op look is I hope I don't get it. My hope is that people still say "WOW you don't look like you've had surgery"

I also hope not to have the "surgery body". That is actually one of my biggest concerns. I am hoping because I am young and still have good elasticity in my body that the skin will want to shrink along with my body. Only time will tell. Surgery is June 28th!!!

A friend who does not know about my surgery saw me for the first time in over a year. She said, "I can tell you did it in a healthy way". I didn't know what she meant and really didn't care. But I'm pretty sure that she is not thinking that I had surgery. I wasn't phased by it.
BTW, I had excess skin when I lost some weight without surgery a couple of years ago. The way I see it is this: I've had excess skin for years. Now, there is less fat filling it out. I don't embrace it but I accept it as a sign of my success and progress. What's the alternative?
