Day 1 with no scale

My husband did what I asked and hid our scale yesterday. I got up this morning and thought, this is going to be easy, no scale.   But, actually, I kinda freaked.   I really have become obsessed with that the scale reads in the morning.  It rules my day!!!  Wow.  I have never been a numbers watcher until the last 3-4 months. (I actually have no idea what my highest weight really was because I started working out before I would get on the scale.)  I had no idea how my day was influenced by weighing in daily.  So, here I go through my scale withdrawal. I am going for no scale for 2 weeks.

I've gotten much better - i'm usually only weighing 2-3x week now, but those days I do weigh, that F*N scale has a lot of control over my mood for the day (even the week ughh).

I think i might actually consider a 2 week ban - Ive tried it in the past and did ok, but dont think I made it 2 weeks lol. Hmmm...keep us updated how it goes and maybe I'll join you.

Hang in there!

You know I was a daily scale person before, sometimes 2x a day, for years and years! However, these days since I'm pretty much the same for so long, I only check every couple of weeks. It's not terribly interesting to see losing and gaining the same 3lbs, so I got bored with it. That's something I never saw coming!

:-)  I HATE chasing them same 3 or 4 lbs around!!  It's making psycho!  And psycho looks good on no one, regardless of weight!  I hope to get to the point where I am ok weighing  every few weeks.

Hi - I'm Gary and I am a scale-aholic (everybody responds "HI Gary") LOL

I weigh myself every morning, and some, no, most days, before I go to bed. I have used the scale before and after using the restroom.

On the practical side, it is a good early warning system for telling me I am not working hard enough.

Since I am an engineer, I have thought about how I could turn this into a good thing. GEEK ALERT! My thought is that if I weigh myself every day I could chart a 30, 60 and 90 day rolling average. the days weight would not be important, but the trend line would. I have been wanting to do this but haven't had the time.

Kat -- I admire you for hiding the scale, it's something I couldn't do.

HI Gary!!  :-) I know I am working hard enough and actually happy doing it.  I am also fairly sure I am putting on muscle which is making my clothes smaller but my scale is going up (well its the same 3-4 lbs on and off)   Watching the wt fluctuate is screwing with my head to much, so away it goes.   hopefully you wont see a post from me on Monday with a weigh in number.  :-)

 Kat,

I meant that early warning remark to apply to me and not you, or anyone else, on the board. I can get to be a slacker on my workouts, particularly if I don't gain or stall when I am slacking. I get the idea in my head that I can do this with diet alone. It only works for a short time with me.

I totally understand how the scale can screw with your head. I just had a conversation with some family and was asked, "how much do you want to weigh?"  What I said was "I am not putting a number on that. My goal is to be in good health (my last physical was fantastic), to run a half marathon (training to a 5K in June), to be able to bench my own weight (currently I can bench about 75% of my goal weight), and to enjoy life (I am going to start playing Rugby this fall and jump out of an airplane next spring). I also said, I don't care what the scale, or worse yet, that evil BMI chart says, when I can do those things, that is when I have reached my goal and whatever weight that is, I will be happy with it.

The problem is I talk the talk, now I have to walk the walk.

That is why I admire you, Alison, Danni, and others who are getting or have gotten past the scale.

Gary

I'm with you on this until Monday, 4/29

Got on this past Monday, got pissed---went out of town (i won't use anyone else's scale)
So when I got home today, I decided to do my best not to get on for one more week.

This will be a first as I'm a daily AM person but I just stacked a bunch of stuff on top of the scale to "hide" it.

We'll see but that's the goal.

When I was pre-op everyone I knew who had wls loss weight rapidly so I foolishly expected my weight loss to happen the same way. At that point I had only been on OH a few time so I didn't really know what to expect. So with eager anticipation I stepped on the scale daily and was often disappointed with the numbers. To my dismay I discovered that I was a slooooooow loser.

My sister got sleeved a few weeks b4 my surgery and I witnessed her scale obsession first hand. So I made a conscious decision to stay away from the scale. I don't even have a set pattern for weighing. Sometimes it's once a week sometimes I skip a week. The only constant is that I only weigh first thing in the morning in my pj's.

My grandmother used to say a watched pot  never boils. So I'm no****ching my pot LOL
