I think one reason i'm really crazy about my exercise/training is because it gives me something else to focus on. 200 lbs later and my body is a complete train wreck, but honestly, when I'm running, or cycling, or hell, prancing around in a swim suit, I coulnd't care less about my skin problems because I wouldn't even be able to do those things if I was fat.

Every morning when I slip into my tiny clothes (haha size 14s/16s) - I have to remember I wouldn't be able to do that if I was still fat, and the loose skin is a very small price to pay.

I pretty much tell myself I only get a set amount of time to have a pity party over my body issues and then I have to move on with my day. I know it can bring about a lot of emotions (and none particularly positive) and we have to just get through them, and feel them but knowing that it's not the end of the world and I'm so much better off with flabby skin than a fat filled body....it gets me through each day.

It's going to be a long journey for us - but, just make sure you take time to remember why you did this and don't get hung up on the things that ultimately don't matter in the grand scheme of living or dying.

BIG HUGGGG - congrats on the 50 lbs so far :)

You will be there before you know it. And let me tell you - as a Mom - after you have a baby - you have a big stomach of lose skin after the baby any way. LOL

So evaluate after you lose most of your weight - if you have a sizeable pannus you may very well qualify to have that removed earlier rather than later. The other Brenda Seattle Maui has some great posts about pannus removal and the stages.

That could make you feel a lot better.

You are doing a wonderful thing for you and a goal of having a baby is wonderful incentive. That's why I was here too - of course I'm currently side railed. But will be right back on the horse to wls soon as I can.

Wishing you all the best!

50lbs is a WONDERFUL way to start- you are doing great. You have a long way to go, so just keep focusing on those positives and small goals. You can do this, but spending time worrying about things you can change (yet) isn't going to help you get where you want to go.

I know it sucks, but loose skin is a MILLION times better than fat! You will get smaller, you will get more active and you can do this!

Good Luck,

Sarah,

We have all been where you are -- and support garments -- ahem, girdles -- can really help!!!  You may have been the person who wrote me while I was in Oregon, but if you want to know about panniculectomies & when to start getting consults - coverage, etc, go check my Nov/Dec 2011 blog.  One other member here on OH actually got her surgery two days after mine -- and she only went to a consult with my surgeon (we were on different programs), and got scheduled for surgery almost immediately.

I had my panniculectomy on Leap Day - lost 18 pounds of flesh, but with swelling, it took almost 6 weeks to see all 18 pounds.  My swimsuit & jean size before - size 26, current swimsuit is a 20, just bought size 22 NON stretch jeans.

Most surgeons want you to be a year out from WLS, but if you are a class 3 or higher - it is reconstructive, and can be done before the year or before you get to "goal" weight.
