I started out at 74 BMI. I have not reached my scale goal yet but I am healthy and mobile. I exercise every day for an hour, no longer need a cane or a wheelchair, no more asthma... I could go on and on about the improvements. I have maintained my weight loss at 2.5 years out... probably the first time in my life weight has been stable.

My BMI was 51  at its highest last May, and a little over 50 when I was sleeved. Now my BMI is around 31.  The ride isnt over, but I can fit in the seats now with room to spare!!  You have to make the right choice for you.  Good Luck!

Yes, I was 502 when I started. The sleeve definitely works for me AS LONG AS I WORK IT! You can do it!

I had a BMI of 75 when I started. I didn't even know about the sleeve when I went in for my surgical consult. My surgeon suggested the sleeve as a first step to a duodenal switch. I am 8.5 months out and down 131. I love the sleeve.

I would love for the sleeve to be all that I need - don't want to have a revision to a DS or RNY. But I've been having long stalls for the last couple of months. At frist it started as a week or two, and then a big drop, which I was expecting, so it didn't bother me too much at first. When I went for my 6 mo. post-op, the surgeon said I was right on track, and that most hit a big stall at 5-6 months. Again, I wasn't going to worry. But my last stall was three weeks, and the post-stall drop wasn't so big, which is just frustrating. I'm still at a BMI of 60. I am still on track to reach my goal by Aug 2013, but wonder how far off track I might be in six months time as the weight loss slows and slows the further I get from my original surgery date. Granted, I still haven't incorporated any exercise into my routine because I have bad back issues and knee problems, and I know I it's self-defeating not to push myself harder now that I've lost some and it's so much easier to breathe and walk than it was before.

Your milage may vary, but I have heard of cases where people have lost 300+ with the sleeve only, so that keeps me encouraged.

You said you have back issues does this prevent you from doing exercise while you stand? Can you do couch exercise? Richard Simmons has a video(s) for that. Also I wonder if you can do small 2 lb weights with your arms as you sit down. I also have lower back issues but they don't always prevent me from doing things. Btw 131 pounds in 8.5 months is CRAZY!!! You can't discount that as a huge loss! We really have to remember that our journeys are so much longer than others and even after 131 pounds we really do have so much more to lose. That would be the end of a lot of people's journey but for many here it is just the tip of the iceberg.

During your stalls do you switch things up or keep them the same??

I have small weights and stretchy bands, but I was kind of thinking more in terms of aerobics, or something to get my heart rate up. I need a stationary bike or an elliptical machine or a pool, but I can't afford a gym, let alone physically get to and from the gym.

I'm pretty good about getting my protein. My typical day is a scrambled egg with maybe some sausage crumbles, greek yogurt, string cheese, protein shake. I could do that every day for breakfast/lunch/snack. For dinner I do a small Lean Cuisine, some grilled chicken and salad, something along those lines. For dessert I have some sorbet or an Italian ice and a crisp cookie. I know I could make some cuts, especially with sugar/dessert, but if I substituted a piece of fruit which might have more vitamins, would it be any different sugar/carb wise?

Like I said, I know what I should be doing, it's always a matter of actually doing it.

Thanks so much for posting this!!!! I am a BMI of 52 and having the sleeve June 11th. The closer I get the more scared I get. I did lap band in 2007 andhad so many complications so I am having it revised. I am so scared to fail again and wondered how realistic was it to lose 150 +lbs by the sleeve and this post has truly helped. It is possible!!!!!! Thanks so much and good luck whatever you decide!!!!

I keep hearing about the lap band having so many complications.  I think it has the most complications of all of the WLS.  So don't worry the sleeve is known to have the least.  Not that there aren't any to be aware of but your chances are a lot less.   The doctor I might be going with refuses to do the lap band anymore because of the high complilcation rate.  I hope your revision surgery goes well. Since it's a revision make sure you have a good doctor and follow the diet to a T in the beginning because you will likely have a little slower recover (more soreness and scar tissue in the stomach) than a virgin sleeve.  I'm sure everything will go well for you.  Take care. :-) Have a nice day!

I weighed in at 368 pre-op with a BMI of around 54....I will be 4 months out on the 25th of this month and have lost 91 pounds so far.

I think it works....of course that is me being totally sincere because I have been in an over 2 week stall now!  GRR!!

Wow that was quick weight loss.  Don't worry about the stall they are normal.  Sometimes they last up to a month or so.  But than you'll start losing again.  You seem to be doing gr8!
