Help,advice????
Ok I welcome any help or advice or encouragement. Here is my problem, as of Monday my surgeon's office put me on a 1500 calories diet which consists of protein shakes and two small meals that have 5oz of meat and 2 cups of certain veggies. My problem right now I am having major headaches, nuasea, and throwing up. This is day 3 and I have to be on this diet til June. I am really frustrated and upset with my limited food choices. I don't know how I can do this til June and feel as tired and sick as I do. At the same time I have to do this so I can loose weight and have the gastric bypass cause my life depends on this!!! Thanks for letting me vent! Andi

The first week is the hardest! It will improve, I swear ;) I was on 1200 calories over a YEAR before my surgery. I use Chike -- MEAL REPLACEMENT (not just a protein drink) twice a day, and three small meals -- I average 900 - 1200 calories a day, depending on my exercise.
I am over 16 months out, just had a panniculectomy, and I usually swim five days a week. If I can do this - so can you!!! For the record, I was 474 when I started -- WITH dieting & exercising a YEAR before surgery -- I am currently 288, so I am motoring along.
If anyone wants to try Chike - they will send you samples -- and it is GREAT stuff - iLikeChike.com -- five flavors - 28 grams of protein, a portion of all the recommended vitamins, and 180 - 190 calories per drink. I even use it in baking, in my oatmeal, as well as just drinking it.
Just realize, it will be easier to learn to eat 1200 calories now, then being forced to barely get in 800 after surgery -- after surgery, it is HARD to get your calories, water, and protein in -- but it improves, I swear! Hang in there, if hundreds of thousands of people can succeed at this, so can you!!!! It seems hardest on the third day, it will become easier -- hugs!!!

hang in there! Your body is yelling at you for attention cuz you're giving it what it needs, not what it wants.
how much water are you drinking each day? Headaches & nausea can come from dehydration - and if you've been used to drinking caloric beverages you might not be getting enough liquid now.
it is best that you get used to eating less and pushing protein & water now - good habits developed before surgery are the best predictors of post surgical success.
I'm preop too - haven't even had my first consultation yet. Started the required weight loss class tonight (I'm a keener, I dont need to start it for a while) but because I've got a year to go still I'm not reducing my calories to 1500 yet. I will after my consult.
the more weight you can lose before surgery, the better - it reduces the risks of complications. Just keep reminding yourself of that!

Please just hang in there. I was at 390 pounds when went to see my doctor. He told to lose 80 pounds and he would do the surgery. I cried. But, Crying did know good. I thought if I could lose pounds wouldn't you jerk. It took me a year and half to lose 60 pounds. Guess what Surgeon still who not do my surgery.. He said, 80 pounds or nothing. The thought my surgery would never. So I found another surgeon. Who did my Surgery within a month. You can lose the weight. It will not be easy. Start walking. I know it not easy at 400 pounds. If nothing walk around your living room. I can't say things get better. The losing weight before surgery was hard. But, the first three month after Surgery. Were the hardest of my life.. It makes you doubts. But, those doubts go away. As the weight falls off. I can,t explain how wonderful it is just to go places without worry about my weight. Being to sit a booth in restaurant. Not worry if the chair will hold your weight. It been a year since my surgery and I am in no way thin by normal standard. But, All together 140 pounds. I am now 223 pounds. I can't how wonderful it is to be able to move again without it being painful. Being able to get out of a boat without falling on my face. Getting into a boat with falling face. I could not even enjoy going to Sea World with my family. Because, of all the walking involved. Just know that things will get better. You don't have to do this alone any more. You have friends.
I know it's rough Andi, but you can do this!
For 3 months everyday I had
1 Isopure drink (1/2 breakfast, 1/2 lunch)
12 almonds for a snack (2x)
and a lean meat and veggie dinner
It was rough, but I lost 50lbs and was ready for surgery. Keep trying different protein shakes and making them with different things until you find one that you tolerate. GNC allows you to return protein, and get samples (see below) before you buy big tubs.
What are you taking now?
