BMI
What is your BMI?
I personally would not want to go through two surgeries. If you are set on the RNY... maybe your surgeon is not the right one for you. My surgeon did the RNY on me at super morbidly obese.
Make sure you have other opinions if he is now wavering on the choice you made. Did he agree for the RNY and now trying to persuade a different route? Did he gives reasons that were reasonable based on you and your personal health issues? Each is individual with different needs. Hard to classify with opinion has we do not know your whole story or reasonings behind your surgeon.
I would make sure you are comfortable with all the decisions though before you have the surgery. Ask questions. Hoping you find the right one very soon. This is your lifetime ahead.
I am very happy with the RNY and sure my size made it challenging more than a smaller big person... But very doable with a great surgeon!!
Hugs,
Best wishes,
Sherrie

My BMI started out in the 70's. I originally wanted RNY before I knew the sleeve was available. Both my husband and I had VSG on 1/30/12. Our surgeon said he was confidant we could lose at least 75% of our excess weight, if not all with VSG.
Now, some days I am thankful I chose the sleeve, I love that I have yet to get sick from anything, and that there isn't as much malabsorption and vitamin deficiencey etc.
Then there are days when I regret not having RNY. I feel like I eat too much, I HAVEN'T gotten sick from anything there for making me tempt it.
I DO however have to keep close count on carbs. When I was off the progressive diet and restriction, we started eating whatever, in moderation, and under 1k calories, we were also working out and walking. I still gained. I put carbs under 40g a day and still worked out and exercised, I dropped 12lbs last week. I have lost 85lbs in 9 weeks. (My count starts with pre-op diet week). I call that a win, even though I wi**** were more.
It's a choice for you. If RNY had been the only thing available, I'd of had it done. I am also fairly young, 28 this month, and I like that if God forbid I lose all this weight, and turn around at 45 and I have gained it all back, the RNY option is still there.
GOOD LUCK!

The only think I can think of for why he would suggest the sleeve is if he thinks you might need to convert to DS in the future. I think I'd ask outright why he suggested the sleeve.
Distal RNY 6/11 SW 456 CW 311 Complications: Small bowel strangulation 12/23/2012, non healing surgical incision--ongoing. Still.
I had the sleeve and recommend it. However, it seems like you need more communication with your doctor to understand the recommendation. Is it about safety? Is it about converting to DS later? Fo me, the sleeve is great and no conversion is needed down the road. You need to understand his recommendation COMPLETELY and then the choice is yours.
