Wow I've never heard of such a CrAZY stat or expectation. I don't think that's accurate. This process will be much easier if you drop this kind of expectations - do your best everyday and the weight loss will happen.

Do not be disappointed in yourself. This will take some time to lose. You have a lifetime to lose... REMEMBER IT IS A JOURNEY AND IT DID NOT COME ON OVER NIGHT AND WILL NOT COME OFF OVER NIGHT!!!

40 lbs is GREAT!! All of our bodies are all unique and will lose at there paces. There are factors into what the scale says, There are inches, pounds, times of the month, fluid retention, activity levels, healing of your body from surgery, there are so many factors.

DO NOT SET YOURSELF UP FOR DISSAPPOINTMENT!!!

Your are winning your battles one day at a time. Take it inch by inch .... It becomes more of a cinch that way!! Enjoy the NSV and each day you are able to realize you are in a far better place than you were Pre op!

I know it happens that we have better days than other days!!

Hugs for a better day and more positives to shine through to you when you really need them!

What at stupid stat. "a little over 40 pounds" in 6 weeks is damned impressive. I hate that you are disappointed.

I'm glad that my less-than-social doctor didn't tell me any mess like that. I was annoyed that he said that 120 pounds in a year would be good. But now I see that I was lucky.

I'll just be impressed for you. Feel free to join in.

YAY!

BTW, you can push yourself harder or challenge yourself and still appreciate your accomplishments. Keep at it and be kind to yourself.

40 pounds in 42 days is awesome!!!

I asked my doctor how much I can expect to lose (
my surgery is Monday).  He told me that the amount is totally up to me.  I'm glad now that he didn't set me up with artificial goals.  I can control what I eat and my compliance but not how much my body will lose when.

 ((hugs))

when was the last time you lost 40 lbs in 6 weeks?

and you're probably still dealing with a less than 100% supportive family!

I'm doing things the slow way right now - calorie restriction that doesn't leave me feeling deprived - I've lost 15 lbs in 75 days, and that includes a couple of post surgery days where I was eating almost nothing (but sleeping most of the time)

and I'm ridiculously pleased by that...imagine if I'd lost 3 times as much in about half the time, which is where you're at!

oh, and while I've heard similar figures before its based on percentage of EXCESS body weight lost. By that standard you're doing BETTER.

DISAPPOINTED??? Sarah, you're doing great! When did you last lose 40+ pounds in 6 weeks?

Get rid of those BIG goal numbers!  If you want to celebrate lots of accomplishments, set small goals like celebrating every 10 pounds lost. It's so much more positive and affirming!

And the previous post is correct---when they give % numbers, they are usually talking about % of EXCESS body weight.  You beat those numbers if it makes any difference!

Congrats!
