This post really makes me see red. I am so sorry that this happened to you and the hub.
I have had so many people either stare at me, ignore me like I am invisible or make a remark about my size. Even my previous boss a 5'3, rat- looking dude used to say, you are so pretty why don't you lose weight?" Why people hate fat people so much is beyond me.......
You mentioned the girl was chunky. Perhaps she has been told she is fat and she was mimicking her parents or her frememies. Just a thought, not an excuse for her rudeness.
I once was called an elephant by a neighbor's 2 year old son. When I spoke to my neighbor about it , she sheepishly apologized and said he heard the term from his father. His father by the way has made more passes at me than any low life I have ever met!?!?!?!?
I find men, old people and kids are the worst.
People are weird, have hang ups and are just plain mean. Stay focused on you, because you are amazing.
