I WENT SHOPPING! Yeah me!
I went shopping yesterday. A meeting got cancelled and I had a couple of hours on my hands during a time that I figured wouldn't be too busy.
Let be clear: My reasons for not liking shopping has nothing to do with my body. I look damn good in my clothes. I don't like the tedious nature of it. When I walk into a store, I feel overwhelmed. When I look at a rack full of clothes that I have to go through, I feel burdened.
What I learned yesterday:
-Old Navy is not my store. #1, their size model has much larger breasts than me. The scoop neck shirts went down to the middle of my bra. Even when I was up a cup size, their tops didn't work. But I thought it would be better since I was looking for a much smaller size. #2, their midrise jeans are too low for me.- enough said. #3, the store is a mess. From a distance, the jeans looked like they were organized the way that I liked- on one wall organized by style and size. No, clearly they need employees to make sure the jeans are put back in order. Also, the racks were a mess. If the rack had size dividers, the clothes within the dividers never matched the size, and almost half of the XL-marked hangers had medium clothes on them. There was so much in the clearance section on the floor! I know that it is the customers doing it, but there needs to be employees whose focus is to keep certain sections organized. Only 3 of the 10 or so employees were at the register. I can't function in a messy store. My brain shuts down. And my definition of messy stores includes Goodwill and some other places that people say have great prices.
-JCPenney is now (along with Khols) my store. I went to JCPenney. Friends told me to go, but I thought that it was too big. When I first walked in, I felt overwhelmed. I decided to just stroll around the whole store with no purpose to get my bearings. I kept my stroll to the wide, main aisles. After I got the lay of the land, I zeroed in on a section of the store. They had a wall of jeans for a few brands (Levi, Lee, St. Johns Bay). I grabbed a couple that were hanging but I didn't have the patience to look hard beyond the wall.
-Lee Jeans. It's not your mother's Lee jeans. Not my highschool Lee jeans either. I fit nicely into a pair of Levi 505s but the Lee was better. Faded Blue brand came in pretty close, but they had mock front pockets- wth?! So, I am now the owner of size 16, dark blue Slender Secret Bootcut Stretch Lee Jeans that fit 'lower on the waist'. All 3 jeans have a more acceptable definition of midrise, but the Lee jeans have some slimming stuff going on. Whatever. They are very comfortable.
I went out last night with my Kohl's XL shirt and JcPenney size 16 Lee jeans. I felt so much smaller. Wearing clothes that fit is definitely motivating.
