working out
I somehow have all this new found energy and want to exercise/move/etc. So, hubby and I are going to check out a gym tomorrow for the first time! I emailed the owner to make sure that the equipment would hold someone who is still as heavy as I am and he said that was no problem.
I am really excited but really nervous too. I am worried about hurting myself or pulling something. What do you guys recommend for someone who is just starting out and over weight. We have started walking, but I have ended up with horrendous blisters so I have to swap to something else for a few days.
Thanks ya'll!

Do what you like to do.....like lift weight start with small amounts and build up your endurance......and get on the treadmill just walk at what ever rate you can and try to walk a mile or two...that is how I started and does your gym have a pool if it does finish with just walking in the pool or swimming ....I like to finish my workout ....Good luck
Actually I think kuddos go to you first for contacting a gym to make sure it fits your needs.
I think it would be very wise to find something like a gym to help you with your journey. Too much of any one movement could cause a lot of wear and tear.
I know a lot of folks also swim. Is that an option for you?
For myself I chase my kids, try to go on walks when I am able, and have goals of getting to a gym at some point. Finding any way to move more than you did before is a plus.
Some folks have also said positive things about working out to DVDs such as Zumba or Walking or Dancing. I'll be trying that too before too much longer.
What a great hubby if he walks with you.

Agreeing with Brenda, contacting the gym before showing up took guts, and is a GREAT idea. Not all gyms expect folks as big as us to show up, let alone realize we do need special attention & spotting.
Did you ask your doc for the okee dokee to work out? That may sound odd, but really, you don't want to cause more harm then good. I actually had to have a release from my primary doc, before I was able to workout -- CYA - Cover Your Ass.
If you have any limitations - I have a weak/bad left ankle/foot/tendon - LET THEM KNOW! Do NOT live by "No Pain, No Gain," as this is CRAP. If you hurt, how much do you hurt? Pain is your body's way of saying "WHOA!!!!" Feeling the burn, is after you've worked out! My muscles SING with heat coming off -- I really love the feeling. It isn't a burn like pain, just your body heating up ;)
Nothing wrong with exercise - just NEVER over do anything. Work at a comfortable pace, and be consistent!!! Exercise works best when done daily ;) Oh, and GOOD shoes will keep you from those blisters ;)
HIGH FIVE!!! Hope you LOVE your new routine!!!
